I get it, the guy is almost certainly not going to win the SEC. On the other hand he is a near 100% guarantee to average 7.5 wins per year over the next 10 years with a few 9+ win seasons sprinkled in. That is exactly what we need right now, not the latest G5 hotshot.

Well the obvious answer is that folks are worried that Mike Leach will be... well... Mike Leach. He's a great offensive mind but he is nuttier than a candy bar.

I'd take him personally but I'm not the AD that would have to deal with a walking PR disaster.

Because he’d be a shite hire and fail miserably here.

The only people mentioning him are media members that want to cover him for their benefit. I think he’d be a terrible fit.

Our AD is already dealing with a PR disaster. And he didn't create it.

Mike Leach would be a big improvement.

If you can't understand why he's 5-6 slots down on the list then you're an idiot. Numerous better candidates out there that are younger and a much better overall fit.

Simple as that.

It's a conspiracy not to hire him because he talks about area 51.

I'm not one to be pretending to know where he is on 'the list'.

Understanding why and agreeing are two completley different things. If it wasn't for that stupid twitter incident Mike Leach would have been controversy free for the past 7 years. He's certainly more qualified to take over for a program in the dumps than any G5 candidate were looking at. If you're 5 or 6 guys ahead are PJ Fleck, Matt Campbell, Matt Rhule types then I'm with you, but I don't agree with the argument that a Mike Norvell or Bill Clark is a "better fit" or better overall candidate, outaide of the lack of controversy. No one is arguing Leach as someone who should coach here for 10 years but Leach has more than proven himself to be a program reviver.

Based on what? Leach is the safest option on the board.

He has proven he can win consistently at disadvantaged programs.

He would bring an offense that defenses aren't used to preparing for.

His scheme would mask our O-line issue quickly.

His name just isn't coming up in the rumor mill, simple as that. I don't know what did or didn't happen there, but I don't think he's a serious candidate at this point.

you may not remember how bad his tech teams got destroyed by the sec. they got crushed for not having good line play.

and he has shown hes good for a big upset his bottom level though is losing to fcs teams. we havent sunk that low yet not really trying for a new program low again

2002: Ole Miss W 42-28
2003: Ole Miss W 49-45
2005: Alabama L 10-13
2008: Ole Miss L 34-47

That's every game vs an SEC opponent during his tenure at Tech

Yeah but let's not act like he doesn't beat top 25 teams the same year he loses to an FCS team. He's not going to just fall flat on his face if he came here.

Wasn't that one of the reasons we wanted rid of Houston Nutt??? Struggle with the cupcakes, but then beat some we shouldn't?

Yes but at the time we thought we could do better and we did under Petrino.

Right now we are worse than we've ever been and a coach that could get us bowl eligible would be a wet dream even if that's their ceiling. We can raise expectations later on down the road.
