SEC Recruiting Rankings - 2018

I get that we only have 10 recruits so the total score isn't the right measure...but our average per recruit is 12th...barely ahead of Missouri and Kentucky.

I get that we're not Tennessee or Georgia, but really....why shouldn't we be?

Unless this staff can reverse the trend in Texas and start loading up down there, I fear we'll see the program fall to (or...sadly...stay at) doormat level in the SEC.

What are the problems?

Out of our control:

Location - We're simply not in the middle of the geography that produces players.

In our control:

Reputation - Both the reputation of the state as bassackwards as well as the fact that any 18 year old alive only knows Arkansas football as a joke other than 2 decent seasons when they were about 9 years old.

Our facilities are not the problem. The clown show managing the program overall is the problem. Given that in about 1989 we were ahead of many programs in the SEC (arguably), then the decay must have started since then.

Let's hope that Chad is up to the task. This isn't a roster rebuild....its a program rebuild.

They literally had like 8+ days to recruit, blame Fatass Bert and Kermit the Frog, Jeff Long for allowing it

This is why we should've fired Bert long ago. Everyone wanted to wait until the end of the year

Welcome to the new, modern, era of college football.

The early signing period is going to take a devastating toll on programs that are having a coaching change and we just had a whole sale one.

Add in the fact that Bielema was not setting the world on fire recruiting this last season (and we may have lost a few of his players who are taking a wait and see approach on the new staff) and that the team was hot garbage and this was going to be a tough recruiting cycle for us.

We will add some players during the second recruiting period but in all honesty this is probably going to be one of those lost years in recruiting. Its why we shouldn't expect a miracle season next year or the year after.

If we manage to make a bowl next year, which is doable, and recruit well going into the season after that then we will be in much better shape come year 3.

We aren't USC or Texas where a new coaching staff can stand on the balcony of their office and take a whizz out the window and be assured of hitting 20 4* high school recruits.

Bad contract put us in a position not to fire BB early.
We waited on Gus because GOB sipped too much Scotch.
We are running a totally different system so most players being recruited won't fit.

The sexual assault scandal and ensuing turmoil essentially necessitated that Baylor take a year off in recruiting. That worked out swimmingly for them this season.

Actually, Arkansas' reputation is MUCH worse nationally, and even regionally than that of the other states in the SEC.

Yep, there's that too. But we're no worse than Alabama and Mississippi when it comes to that.

Bert and his staff were half assing recruiting for most of the year, and it's going to end up screwing us. I say he was fired for cause. Cancel the $11m check

He's going to get the full 15 million for being a historic failure at his job. That's a lot of food.

Sorry, I call bs on that we’re in the same conference with MS, LA and AL.

Not to mention Missouri and their recent history of race riots.

Look, I get it.

"We are doomed, doomed, doooooooooooomed!"

You are right. We might as well abolish the football program right now. Hell, we should close the university. Perhaps even see if we can be annexed by Mississippi as a state. Not that it matters because the world is surely coming to an end because we are probably going to have a very bleh recruiting cycle the season that we changed coaches.

Is it ideal that our new coaches had 8 whole days and an incomplete coaching staff to recruit the early signing period? Uh, no, no it isn't. Will we be behind the 8 ball a bit because of that going forward? Yeah, we will be.

But some of y'all need to get a hold of yourselves.

Did y'all want the coaching staff to change? Yes? Then realize, with the early signing period, that its going to hurt us that first year.

Its the price you pay in today's recruiting landscape for changing coaches.

Early signing period really hurts with the coaching change.

It wasn't going to be a huge class if Bert was here any way, 18-20 players max.

This is the downside to a lack of attrition.

Did he ever actually sign a full class in his 5 years?
