OMAHA, Neb. — Arkansas coach Dave Van Horn received a contract extension after the Razorbacks' last appearance in the College World Series in 2015, and it appears he could receive another extension after this year's trip to Omaha. Arkansas athletics director Hunter Yurachek said Saturday that extending Van Horn's contract "is on my radar screen" after the Razorbacks' season ends. Arkansas is scheduled to play Texas in the College World Series on Sunday at 1 p.m. Van Horn, 57, is in his 16th season at his alma mater. He has a 639-332 record at Arkansas and has taken the Razorbacks to the College World Series five times. "We'd love for Dave Van Horn to be our baseball coach for as long as he wants to be our baseball coach," Yurachek said. "That's something he and I will sit down and discuss once the season is over. His focus, as it should be right now, is here in Omaha and winning a national championship." Van Horn is working on a contract that runs through the 2021 season. His annual compensation is $775,000 before bonuses, which this year will total more than $100,000. Van Horn received a $75,000 bonus for his 600th win at Arkansas in February; $15,000 for winning a share of the SEC West championship in May; and will receive at least two month's salary for taking the Razorbacks to the College World Series. He would earn a bonus of $100,000 for winning a national championship and other, smaller academic-based bonuses are written into his contract.

Keep is salary where it is and do away with all bonuses not related to winning a championship.

Bottom line is teams who expect to win Championships like LSU, Carolina, Oregon State, Texas, etc are not going to be beating on his door while teams like Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama, etc who expect to be decent year in and out are a lateral move at best.

In every other profession increases in salary are earned by results delivered...

Extension? Sure!!! Why not?!!

I mean we did win the....wAit...nevermind. We didn’t actually win shite this year!!!

But truthfully, I’ll take the CWS finals over a SEC Title. We’ll be back to the CWS. The finals? Maybe in 40 years DVH will never win one now. This was his one shot.

Then how the hell has Mike gotten a raise. He couldn’t even get out of the opening round with a team full of seniors and a future lottery pick

Give him a cool million with the expectation to make the series every 2 years...

I mean, Chad got 3.5 and hasn't done crap yet.

MA, LMAO...

Give a million as well as bonus for winning the whole enchilada.

But, get the absolute best talent for assistants in the nation with an amazing boost in pay for them.

and, all of this needs to be an addendum to the current contract called the Dale Denton Compromise...

Since he had to be caught in a compromising situation with MA!

You do know that more people have been in attendance to watch a regular season game at BWA on several occasions than were in attendance to watch game 3 of the CWS last night?

That is how irrelevant the sport is, for a million a year you could hire a coach who would/could actually win the thing. That's how ubsurd that amount is. He couldn't meet the expectations of making it there every two years anyway, he's more likely to lose in the regional next year or have a losing season over all than make it back to Omaha based on his track record.

Game 2 tickets were selling for $200+ for grandstand and corner outfield reserved seating. A ton of people had to leave after the tournament was postponed by a day.

How much would it cost to get a coach that can make it to the second weekend of the NCAA basketball tournament?

There isn’t an unbiased sports reporter in the country that would say that Mike is an equal to DVH. Not a single one.

DVH is the best coach Arkansas has in any sport, and it's not even close.
He deserves to get paid in the Top 1% of college baseball coaches, and be given the ability to compensate the assistants in a similar manner.

I sincerely hope at some point in Long's tenure DVH told him to go frick himself.
