Next coach must have some self respect. No way a 21 year old D1 athlete is listening to 400lb coach bitch at him about not putting in enough effort.

I want a coach that insists on a great running game and emphasizes defense...

Anyone out there that fits the bill? Those are the guys competing for championships, not just 8-10 win seasons.

We can't rely on that, dont get the athletes to play defense.

I just want a guy that's got a niche he's known for, don't care if it's offense or defense. Whichever it is, he needs to be considered one of the best and most innovative/creative and always field good units on that side. Offense would work better with our recruiting, but I'd take either at this point opposed to a guy that's not really known for either.

He needs to be a hardass to whip this team into shape and remove the losing culture in the beginning, then he can settle in later if that's more his style.

Doesn't have to be an ace recruiter or anything as long as he wins at a better clip than we've seen, then the recruiting and everything else will take care of itself for the most part.

I don't think this is true at all. we will never be a recruiting powerhouse.

That's not really what I'm saying. If a coach can come in and learn to win with the talent level we're accustomed to then we don't have to be a recruiting powerhouse, although recruiting will experience an uptick with any amount of consistent winning. You dont have to be lights out on the recruiting trail to get guys you can win/compete with, especially if your program is on the upswing.

Thats what I mean by the rest will take care of itself.

Like you alluded to bob stoops saying. We can recruit better than we are. If we start winning 8-9 consistently. Get some 10-11 win seasons here and there. Our recruiting will go above it's average of 25. If a coach comes in here, and consistently puts us around 9 wins. We will move up to a level we have not seen.

Then that person has to get lucky win double digits, and use that moment to land a big class (the one thing Bobby failed to do with his momentum)

I want a guy who is tough on his players.

Who expects perfection.

Has built a program himself in the past.

Has Texas recruiting ties (also a staff with Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, general south east. Or has these connections with a staff with Texas ties)

Runs a spread offense. I feel our recruiting footprint fits this style most.

Aggressive defense.

Can and has developed a qb at a high level.

Agree with all of these, and Chad Morris is the one who most fits this mold. Former Texas HS coach and deep recruiting ties, architect of Clemson's offense and developed both Tajh Boyd and Deshaun Watson, runs a spread, and rebuilding SMU after the end of the Jones era was a disaster.

I'm not all in on it has to be a spread coach. There is no great shortage of teams running the spread right now and quite a few of them suck. Pro style, spread, power run, triple option, pistol... whatever... just do what you do well.

I do want he or his coordinators to field a system that uses our players to their best advantage. If we are winning games and being effective running the ancient Wing T then by God I'll be thrilled if we only ran that each game. If its the spread then shotgun snaps 60 times a game won't bother me at all.

He has to be able to develop players, not just QBs, but players at every position. We've had some great QBs light up the scoring board here but if everyone else on the team stinks on ice its not going to matter.

He has to be firm with the players and get the best out of them, and with his staff as well. And himself.

He also needs to adhere to the old Bear Bryant philosophy of "If we do something fairly good then we did it, if we did something great then you did it, and if we did something bad then I did it" when talking to the press. I'm tired of watching coaches hurl everyone else under the bus.

He needs to field an athletic team. There is too much team speed out there to go with big and slow. There will always be fatigue, especially late in a game, but if our team is dead legged and its just two minutes into the second quarter we are royally hosed.

Finally, and I know this will sound like an odd condition, but its one I feel strongly about, he has to give a flying fart out of a running rat's a-hole about our special teams. Pardon my French there. If our special teams were worth a damn across the board there is a decent chance Bielema might be close to .500 in the SEC. We have been losing a couple of games a season due to miscues on special teams.

We need a coach that will get after it. I don't care who he is, or what he runs. Don't cheat in a stupid manner and get us hung out to dry like Ole Miss and don't settle for good enough. Do that and I'll be happy.

I'm not a huge spread guy (we ran the inverted wishbone at my HS for God's sake), but I do think it's more aligned with our recruiting footprint and the type of talent our state regularly produces. We pretty reliably churn out decently ranked talent at the skill positions and have for over a decade, and it's just a matter of both keeping them home and putting them in the best scheme to maximize their potential.

Wins the games he should, schemes a way to beat some (top 10 types) that he shouldn't 2 out of 5 times on average maybe.
Wins majority of bowl games.

Don't care how he does it.
