petrino opened the University up to potential litigation

This has been repeated so much that people believe it's a good reason for firing him. So what if someone filed a lawsuit against the university? We just spent $160 million on a stadium expansion that no one is using. I think we could have weathered a lawsuit.

Petrino is a flawed man at best, a decent to good coach. He is bound to not be anywhere very long. Weather it is by self sabotage because of pride or arrogance, or crapping the bed, or abusing some system, or lying, cheating, etc. He will never again be hugely successful as a HC because of the above unless he seeks some major therapy and finds success with it

I agree with both.

As for the reason why you can't just let the lawsuits roll in and pay for them, it's because it justifies the bad behavior and you end up with a way worse program when it finally does hit the fan i.e. briles

I have never understood exactly how the firing of Petrino diminished the chances for any potential lawsuit to be filed against the university.

I'm not sure why our opinion gets you so riled. You claim something entirely speculative, intangible, and vaguely mystic like "Jeff Long killed Petrino's mojo by firing him" and use that as proof positive that his career at Arkansas would have remained on the up-and-up. Yet we hold the stupid and pathetic opinion because we have tangible results at a place easier to win at than Arkansas?

And what the hell are you even talking about? Petrino's reputation and career couldn't survive his shameful sacking at Arkansas, yet he was going to lead us to the Promised Land? He could handle getting reamed in the NFL for a season and literally dipping out in the night like a pussy with his confidence fully intact (came back at his strongest, as a matter of fact), but he couldn't handle Arkansas putting him in his place?

Willful intent...

If, after the info got out that volley ball girl was hired in a position (Not Missionary) that she was totally unqualified for, and others were overlooked who definitely had experience, etc... Since she was let go, and paid off.. .and he was fired, Willful negligence or intent cant be proven. Otherwise, every single applicant would have had a justification for filing a suit.

I spoke to a couple of folks at the UofA about this exact scenario.

FWIW!

Timely bump.

Not sure how many of you saw this, but Petrino derped one away today reminiscent of the 2010 Bama game.

Had 1st & 10 at the FSU 20 leading with less than 2 minutes left and inexplicably calls a pass that is intercepted by FSU, who proceeds to score the winning TD on the next drive.

Petrino's biggest flaw, well other then the whole "whoopee! I've got a wild pecker!" is that at times he gets a little to cutesy in situations where playing it safe is the way to go.

And yet our program went in the ditch with that MF.

As someone who has worked for a university, this absolutely happens all the time.

The GOBN was dying to get rid of Petrino because he was a jerk and didn't give them the access they wanted to the program. Had the case been different Petrino would still be here. See Urban Meyer.

As for those downplaying the loss of "mojo". Look at Tiger Woods. What was he doing when he was winning major after major? Banging pornstars. Same with Petrino. If Louisville wants to be back, give him back his motorcycle and volleyball player.

I was thinking earlier that it would be interesting to see how many times in a row Louisville lets Petrino lose four and give games a season before they sack him. He isn't really living up to the standards he set, and he's proven to be a step backward from Charlie Strong. So I was looking at the schedule this year to see where he stands, and honestly, he's made Louisville look as bad or worse than us. He's currently 2-3 on the year with blowout losses to Alabama at a neutral site (14-51) and @ 3-2 Virginia (3-27). He then has a close loss to 3-2 Florida State at home (24-28). His two wins are over an FCS team and a three-point victory against 1-4 WKU.

He still has @Clemson, @ 4-1 Syracuse, and @ 4-1 Boston College coming up, along with 3-0/#23 NC State, and 5-0/#13 Kentucky. Kentucky is surprisingly legit this year, so I expect that and Clemson are auto losses. He seriously might not reach a bowl this year if all the cards fall the wrong way. I suspect he'll likely beat Wake Forest and Georgia Tech, though.

Will our old buddy Bobby P. be without a job by the end of the year? I really never thought I'd see him get fired from Louisville for underperforming, I thought he'd eventually lead them to the playoffs.

there is already major rumblings in the Louisville fan base wanting him gone.

His contract is fairly steep though. Some believe he is ready to leave.

He will always have a wandering eye, and will be an OC for an NFL team one day I believe...

His recruiting is sucking bad as well. But with Jurich gone, things have continued to go down hill at Louisville all around.

yep, thats the reason i brought it up. our fans are still crying over Bobby, but i would contend it would have always run its course just like it has at louisville. Hes never been forced to sustain a program on his recruits. And I'm convinced their program is in much worse shape right now than ours

LOL at equating post-motorcycle-not-really-motorcyle performance with whatever might have happened had that episode never seen the light of day.
I'm sure that had NO LINGERING EFFECT whatsoever

I wonder what term the psychology profession has coined for this weird stance - "had success but probably woulda failed"... it's pathetic.

btw - at this point who's "crying over Bobby"? Who keeps bringing the guy up?
Louisville should fire his arse tomorrow just so we can watch people crow as if possessed of some great insightful, precognitive ability.

it's way more pathetic to blame his shitty performance at louisville on jeff long firing him years ago

It's going to take years to rebuild Louisville after he's done..his current '19 recruiting class ranks 12th in the ACC and 58th in the nation
