BMFP was the best coach we've had since Lou Holtz. Looks like we need another 20 years or so before we get our next Holtz/Petrino. Right now, I'd settle for the next Houston Dale Denton Nutt.

Louisville fans are turning up the heat on him. Seems his better days are behind him.

I take the view that he would have torpedoed our program in one fashion or another and I come to that conclusion watching his success drop off everywhere he goes once he has to rely on his guys. He's great at "X's and O's" but horrible at sustaining a program long term. Yet he's out recruited Virginia the whole time he's been at Louisville and just got boat-raced by them. I only throw it out there, because some of you guys treat him like Jesus around here. I enjoyed his success here, but I think I view it a bit more like lightning in a bottle than most of our fan base.

Bert's success was with BP's players. He won 21 games his last 2 seasons. I think he would have had another pretty good 3 or 4 years before he started falling off.

Long killed a lot of Petrino's mojo with the smear job firing... proclaiming Petrino's results would have dropped off is like saying FatBert was building a championship caliber juggernaut.

This is a terrible take. Long gave him an out and he lied to long about it. At the end of the day , petrino opened the University up to potential litigation given that he hired the coed he was sleeping with to a publicly funded job. Even if you hate long, surely you realize petrino shite his own bed and had to lie in it.

I mean, outside of Saban, most coaches tend to lose their grip on college football. Fulmer, Bowden, and that douche from Texas to name a few.

We would still have been in better shape for the next guy than we are now.

Kiss my arse. If he’s at Alabama, LSU or some other program with an admin that gave a shite about competing, he’d still be hiring and banging blondes.
Go beta somewhere else.

hiring chicks you bang with govt money and lying to your boss about it, is something every AD would fire.

I think Ken Hatfield was actually better by the numbers. His horrible bowl record aside, Hatfield had us competing and relevant.

Petrino has been really average since he got back to Louisville. I wonder what the problem is. Oh well, seeing it makes me realize we didn't lose a coach as good as we thought

How is that the same thing? We actually see Petrino doing worse in a weaker conference for an extended period of time, it's not speculation. I can't imagine he would have fared better than 8–5 or 9–4 in 2012. It's actually astounding to me how average he's been since getting fired here.

That was my point exactly. I'm not happy where the program is, but we collectively need to quit acting like uncle Rico and being like "if we could go back in time, we would have won so many national championships if that pesky Jeff long hadn't gotten in the way!"

In his 5th year at Louisville, petrino has a statistically worse rated team than we do.

Lol at the dim reasoning that post-firing Petrino is similar to projecting whatever results may have happened here with no firing.

Spin away. Because transitive property right?

I couldn't give two shits whether Petrino has success or not at Louisville.

What happened while he was at Arkansas is old history now, but he had a top 5 team with a new DC coming in to address that side of the ball.

To proclaim he was going to crater at Arkansas because of what you see at Louisville now is pathetic or stupid... pick one.

Let me try for both, just for the jollies of it.

Petrinos' recruiting was taking a stark turn for the worse while at Arkansas even prior to his harlot on a Harley episode. He truly did luck into the Warren boys when he arrived. Either way, we were heading to becoming a perennial 6-8 team win on the regular basis.

Look, I don't disagree that perhaps he could have been kept, at the expense of absolute ridicule, recruiting catastrophe, and law suits galore. However, can we not agree on the intelligence of one simple thought.

Petrino is a flawed man at best, a decent to good coach. He is bound to not be anywhere very long. Weather it is by self sabotage because of pride or arrogance, or crapping the bed, or abusing some system, or lying, cheating, etc. He will never again be hugely successful as a HC because of the above unless he seeks some major therapy and finds success with it.
