He won 9 games in his second year something the 3 previous coaches couldn't do and you want to let him walk because he wants to be paid closer to the fair market price for SEC head coaches. It's a stupid fricking take and you should feel bad.

He's worked his arse off and returned Arkansas to respectability when our program was rock bottom, but we should continue being 13th out of 14 in Head coaching salary but expect a National Championship.

Some of you dumb fricks need to be in assisted living homes.

“Administrators love to budget things”

Where? Here?

Administrators got us golden handcuffs and Bert’s massive buyout.

Now you want a guy to get paid 7M for winning the outback bowl, losing to 5-7 Auburn at home, who hasn’t proven he can recruit and develop his own players. He definitely deserves a raise but 7M a year is absurd.

I’m not saying he won’t, recruiting is going well but these are Chaggies players and our D line recruiting has been absolute arse.

Recruiting and development looks good but let’s see another year before we blow our loads for the 5th time with the wrong guy.

90% of our fan base rationalized John Elle into being a good appointment at the time and vast majority found a way to pump
Chaggie.

Don’t think he’s saying let him walk, he’s just saying let’s not be idiots like we have been for years.

And he’s got a valid point about the shitty optics of hiring sexton the second he got some leverage.

No he doesn’t deserve guarantee $7 mill/year but he did deserved it for last year.

We finished ranked 21. If he was the 21st highest paid coach he’d make $6 million.

I’m just saying if you want to lowball a coach then the incentives have to be great. Otherwise you’re just being cheap.

For sure. I’m with you.

Just don’t want another dumb buyout for beating a has been program in a semi relevant bowl.

A perfect example of everything is so relative. Fans often lose perspective shortly after overachieving and that shortly becomes the expected or standard. Crazy how the human mind works that way.

I don’t think anyone expects a national championship in football.

If you think we need to double his salary so he won’t walk then you’re the dumb frick. Who in their right mind would pay him $7 million with his resume?

You’re falling into the same trap Jeff Long did after Bielema won the Texas bowl.

You mean like wanting to overpay a coach for one good season?

If Arkansas isn't willing to pay to play we'll never have sustained success and honestly won't deserve it. Paying closer to the SEC market value will also show other coaches that Arkansas is serious about competing. The whole fricking reason we got Pittman is because we lowballed everyone. We just got lucky, this time

No the better idea would be to continue to under pay him for the job he's done while everyone around him gets massive pay raises. Little ol Arkansas just can't keep up with the juggernauts of Ole Miss and Mississippi ST. Hopefully Hunter doesn't also eat paint chips for breakfast. And no I never said double his salary, but 5 to 5.5 is doable and well deserved

So much this. We just got done making half arse position coach hires because we are cheap. As a fan base we have complained for years that we have "natural recruiting disadvantages", but who the hell knows, we've never been willing to fork over the cash for a top notch coaching staff. Pay the man his damn money and let's quit sitting at the fricking kiddie table.

Was the increase in pay the issue with Bert or was it the buyout?

If you whole argument is granting a massive buyout with that annual pay raise I could agree with your overall point.

I have been out of the loop, obviously. But where is this definitive number coming from? I haven't seen any true reports, or objective sources concerning this, only internet fodder..

Not that I think they fit the “right mind” category, but if Auburn will…and they might…then he just became worth it.

Y’all don’t understand Sexton yet apparently.

Every pod and reporter has said the same. They claim sources, but those sources could be Hogville.

Could do a 5m base and 1m for ever 2 wins over 6. That would be 7m for 10 wins… post season doesn’t count. But give him $250k for a pre New Years game and $350k for a bowl win after New Years. And $500k for a NY6 win.

You ever heard of a negotiation? He went high and the University will counter and they'll meet somewhere in the middle and nothing at all is wrong with that

I agree with this take. Start high, negotiate for what you want for yourself and staff.
