seems like he uses a handful of simple formations with different options and blocking schemes to attack the defense based on what he's given. The passing game isn't overly complex but the routes seem to complement each other well like petrino's playbook. Someone just came open every play naturally it seemed or there was a giant empty space on the field in front of the qb.

What I took from it was that he and Sam Pittman are a match made in heaven. The Briles offense uses a physically punishing ground game. But its not just run off right tackle ala HDN. The man really mixes things up in the run game.
And yes people will be open in the passing game. But by the middle of the third quarter the defense is going to be grabbing at their knees and winded. And thats when we will hit them over and over with an assortment of power run plays.
My only hope is that we can keep Briles here for at least 5 years. Bc he and Pittman are a REALLY REALLY good match.

That was funny for about a day or so. Kinda of like the tardville version of I just......whoever.
Maybe you can think of a new joke? This isn't tardville. If sitting in the bath rub and laughing at your own farts is your thing. Maybe you should login for a free account there. You will fit right in.

Thats exactly right. In college football its about EXECUTION. There is no need to make things complicated. And while the run scheme will be somewhat complicated with Briles. It won't be near as difficult to learn as the timing that comes with the hundreds of passing routes etc. Kiss. Keep it simple stupid. Petrino ran the same play out of a variety of formations in order to keep defenses honest.
I don't think that Briles has the offensive genius of a Petrino. Few do. But he's a really good QB coach. And the run game is the QB's best friend. Like I said, I really hope we can keep him around for a while. This is an outstanding hire. The Hogs will be back.

He apparently teaches all through video and there is no playbook to learn. it should be radically different from what we had.

I didn't know that. I can see the advantage of teaching through video. Especially in modern times.

Honestly ragnow said Pittman tried to keep things as simple as possible so his guys could play fast. Briles brings that in spades. Pittman probably loved it.

Can we leave him at that? Pretend like he never came here?

it's up tempo but like with a plan. i feel like the basic rule of up tempo which is dont substitute, we broke constantly under Morris

Its a much simpler offense too. Way more run heavy. The Briles scheme has VERY simple routes. So it can operate much better without subbing. The receivers also split out way way wider. So they don't have to actually run routes on running plays. And they don't really have to block downfield so much either.
There are maybe two or three routes or so. But its hard to defend bc the run game has a lot of nuances. And if you put 6 in the box he will pound the ball. Receivers put up huge numbers in this offense. Morris has a high school bullshite offense by comparison.
Having said that it isn't a Pro offense. But its perfect for college. Its going to be a lot of fun to watch. The ball will be snapped really fast. If I recall around 15 seconds into the clock fast.
Year one is going to be a lot of fun. And again bc Pittman is a master offensive line coach this is a match made in heaven.

Thanks I'll check it out. Someone said the Carolina game showcased his run sets? But I'm not finding it. Did they mean East Carolina Houston?

Probably North Carolina/Baylor bowl game.

From an OU fan on the rant...
quote:
It's a veer-n-shoot/spread hybrid "check with me" proprietary offense. It's a balanced offense both run and pass and they run it at a frantic pace. Emphasis on track speed at all WR positions and playing head games with a defense.
