I honestly believe with the right coaching he could still be a good quarterback

At least much better than what we’ve seen out of him so far. You can tell he’s a different player than the guy who played against ole miss and CSU. It’s like he’s not even accurate anymore with the ball even though his decision making was suspect he used to at least throw it where he wanted

The thing is... maybe with a QB whisperer, someone like Dan Enos who can get into a guy's head... Starkel could put up huge numbers and get a shot at the NFL. He has the raw talent. He's just screwed up in the head.

Brandon Allen was declared the worst QB in Arkansas history going into his senior season but once he got a QB coach that could settle him down he did great.

I fear that Starkel is going to be one of those What If QBs that has a ton of talent but flames out at the college level.

Correct. You have to remember that his truck was burned after his SOPHOMORE season.

Are you referencing an article? Is that your opinion? Are you saying that was the general fans consensus? How did he start his entire junior year, never getting benched once, if he was THE worst EVER at thend of the season? Lolololol He didn't become 2nd or 3rd all time in all of our major passing categories in 1 season. I know his sophmore season was bad but statistically he had a good junior year. Admittedly he could have had a much better one and I do remember being very mad at him after that Georgia game in LR. Missed like 3 wide open TDs. He still ended up going 3 to 2 with over 60% completion, so he actually had an alright game overall. He wasn't great his junior year but in no way was he awful. I don't remember a narrative of him being "the worst" going into his senior year. I remember cautious optimism.
FWIW Starkel this year is statistically worse than Brandon Allen his sophmore year, outside of completion%.

The main point (I think) was the dramatic transition Brandon made with good coaching, with which I can fully agree. Whether Brandon was the worst ever early in his career is just hyperbole.

Man I will never forget Brandon vs Dak and Brandon vs Kelley (Ole Miss) in Brandon's senior year. He really was an elite college QB at that point.

I also agree that Starkel has all the tools and could be so much better with good coaching. Would love for him to have a good senior year somewhere, maybe even here.

Dude had an incredible stretch of games toward the end of that season. Against Bama, Auburn, UT Martin, Ole Miss, and Miss State he had 21 TD and 3 INTs. I can't even fathom that kind of QB play right now.

Slow your roll there Tex. I am referencing the general opinion from right here on the forums at that time.

His numbers weren't terrible but he had an infamous case of the yips and collapsing when the game was in doubt up until he got straightened out.

I remember cautious optimism! Horsefeathers. I remember people praying that his brother would be the starter under Enos because they thought Brandon's nerves were shot. But he turned things around and had one of the best seasons ever for a Razorback QB.

FWIW I didn't say he was the worst, I said people were declaring him the worst. Mostly, as I have said, because he had a noted tendency to choke in big moments. If that offends you than I apologize.

Yeah we were riding high after the Texas bowl win in case you forgot including yourself. Cautiously optimistic is the perfect phrase see the thread I bumped for proof.

Only by butt fricking idiots.

I had full confidence going into his senior year he would be amazing. He finally had a team around him to actually help him.

Gonna stop you right there. You aren't remembering the correct year. Allen was only garbage his first year as a starter. He improved drastically every year after that. It didn't take him until his Senior year to be good. His Junior year rivaled his last final one in terms of production. The only people still bitching about Allen by his Junior year were casual fans and people who had a vendetta against the Hogs "keeping it in the family" with Bobby Allen on staff.
