It isn't a good comparison because it is a numbers game for two different sports.

He did make some CWS appearances with Arkansas players but as the brand got better, DVH was able to recruit more highly touted players across the nation.

Success equals a bigger and better brand that expands from that respective state or regional area.

Arkansas produces a decent amount of offensive lineman, running backs, quarterbacks, TEs and WRs.

They suffer the most lacking interior defensive lineman, linebackers and defensive backs.

Defense is the bigger issue besides depth that has hurt Arkansas.

It pays the bills because most Americans care for football than any sport. Arkansas is no different.

It helps pay for other sports that lack the revenue and having a decent football program helps.

Arkansas fans need to stop having high expectations from a sport that hasn't been relevant since the Hatfield years.

Arkansas needs to have 7 plus winning seasons and win bowl games. That gives you a chance to build the brand from a solid foundation.

Having 2-10 Chad seasons kill any momentum and going through a revolving door of coaches keep you at the bottom.

When those winning seasons are consistent then you can start raising expectations which can be tricky as too high of expectations can send you to the bottom again.

Some of those games are a result of coaching such as the Aggie, Liberty and Missouri games.

Win those and you go 9-3 and win a minor bowl that gives you 10-3.

The bottom line is we have no chance to win it all in football with the current rules/etc. We will be lucky to make a 12 team playoff once every 20 years or so
the bottom line is we’ve never won one in baseball and only have 1 in basketball so that shouldn’t be the only reason you watch. From 2000-2012 our football team was unequivocally better than basketball, and who knows what’s in store post muss, since let’s be honest we were in basketball purgatory as well before he came along.

we were a Reggie fish muffed punt away from playing for a national championship in 2006. We were 1 game away from playing in a natty in both 2010 and 2011. I mean we would have been in a 12 team playoff all 3 of those seasons and that’s not that far in the past and well past Hatfield. The last 10 years just really broke most of y’all I guess that’s what 2 4-8, a 3-9, and two 2-10 seasons will do to you, again going back to my OP, that Jeff long, chad, bert and John L cratered us. not Arkansas high school football, or any change in the land scape of college football, just those 4 shitty individuals who had control over our football program.

I posted this on the rant, but seeing so many people apathetic towards football who feel like we will never be able to compete again I think this needs to be said and remembered, the past decade was unequivocally the worst ever in Arkansas football history, and that is at the feet of Jeff long, John L smith, Bret Bielema, and chad Morris.

You're leaving out several, like Jeff Long, Jerry Jones, and several of the BOT members, but I'll allow it.

Everybody got mad at me last year for saying this but I still am waiting to see how Sam is any different than Bielema. I’m no Bielema apologist but it definitely feels like throwing him in with Morris is just a coping mechanism

Pretty sure Sam won an SEC game or two in his first year.

this Sam = Bert mentality has to go... I mean, damn.

Bert fiddlefricked several games, looked absolutely lost, mouthed and couldn't back it up with Saban, Texas Tech, etc. Began the controversy against Gus concerning Playing too fast for player's health.

Then got hammered constantly, gained a gazillion pounds, All while still fiddlefricking games. He was a accident waiting to happen period.

Sam, won some games the first year and shocked some folks. He then hired decent coaches, and fired those causing problems and those who sucked. He doesn't mouth off, teaches respect, and is a decent manager of the team. He also wants to win period. You can see it. IDK if he will get us to more than respectability, but he has already gotten us to be better than Smile, Chard, Bert, and on par with at least Nutt (THE SEC IS MUCH MORE DIFFICULT NOW) comparison wise imho! Rant off

Sam didn't go winless in his first year. Bert lost games where Sam would have won.

At least Sam had an excuse even if it was bad.

But Bert who was a seasoned head coach before he got here lost to Toledo at home.

Either way both are very bad losses and the preparation for those games were sloppy.

Bert was always drunk.

I remember watching him get his name announced before a game one season and he had a cup of coffee in his hand and had a puzzled look on his face.

Missouri was worse. The Liberty that played us takes that dogshit Missouri team behind the woodshed.

yep, I just don't get the deal with Mizzou...

We have better talent, better coaching from top to bottom, and yet act as if they don't exist. They seem to get really up for our game, we don't. That does need to change.

Not remotely true. We’re 2-7 vs Mizzou since they joined.
