in you that he’s the one to extinguish the dumpster fire and take us to the Promised Land?

I’m willing to give the man a chance and TBH I really didn’t know what to expect. Most likely, I would not have been overwhelmed with whoever they hired. I figured we probably weren’t getting Belichick or anyone like that.

But we’ll start a new chapter and only time will tell.

I love this hire.

SMU fans are upset
National media thinks we nailed it.
And if deshaun watson/DeAndre Hopkins ball out in Houston for the next 10 years, Morris will have the best pitch in the state of Texas to recruits.

The only people melting are people that don't understand he took over the worst team in the FBS 3 years ago

I’m optimistic, seems to really be adored by some that know him better than us so that’s got to be a good sign.

And I’m just so glad we finally divorced, Bret, I wish him the best but that just sucked the life and soul out of us by the end.

So, consider me a happy camper for the time being at least.

from another poster (drbeeper)...

really don't understand why everyone thinks Norvell is better. Morris has turned around at team that was a total shiteshow and made them bowl eligible in two years.

if we are talking about recruiting, he has a different set of tougher academic standards at SMU to deal with. Not so here.

He's the better choice than a one year job hopping assistant that took over a good program to begin with.

Furthermore, I have deep family connections into the SMU football family, and everyone there loves him, but knows they are going to lose him.

The only people melting are the ones looking at his W-L record which at SMU is irrelevant other than he’s improved them every year

It's not a home run hire but there's potential for him to do very well here. I'm optimistic but I'm not swinging from the chandelier. I don't think anyone should be discouraged by this hire. It's very clear what the front office wants to do now. We're going to hit Texas hard and often.

Yep, even a few said a home run hire. Doesn't mean it is ultimately going to work out but appears to be solid

THIS! It’s just simple minded and shallow to stare at 14-22 and melt. There are so many reasons to like this hire. I really don’t get it.

If he lands a solid DC? Holy shite!

If they are willing to throw big money at a DC and a tip notch recruiter, we may be in bussiness.

With the reference to domestic relations law and all, I think this sums up my sentiments better than anything else. :-)

I feel much better with Morris than I did when Bert was hired. He seems to be extremely focused, passionate, well-liked/respected by so many in this sport, well-connected, & so knowledgeable, particularly when dealing with a flailing team/program. To do what he did with the abysmal mess at SMU makes me very hopeful, & I haven't felt that since Bobby P. Nothing drastic will happen overnight, but I believe Morris will be fully vested in the Razorback program & give it everything he's got. No one who takes on what he did at SMU has a lazy or lackadaisical bone in his body. Also, I don't believe he'll have any peripheral issues which might distract or interfere with his job & focus. I believe it's a really, really great & solid hire.

Yeah I think you have to say Morris is a better fit, regionwise if nothing else. Bert may have looked good but the hire was kind of out of left field and non-traditional and most of us were surprised.

I'll definitely say I feel better about Morris at the time of the hiring than I did about Bert. Bert won me over the year we had a top 10 defense. I was very much on the fence until then. Morris I have a bit more confidence in as he doesn't seem like a bumbling baboon walking down the sideline.

If I had to gauge my excitement it would be significantly above Bert but slightly below the Petrino hire. I think the only hire that would have had me losing my mind in ecstasy would have been Gundy.

I really like the hire. He’s a spread offense guy that can recruit Texas. I think with the right staff, guy will make some noise

If anyone is feeling a little low, just head over to VolNation to see what a true clusterfrick looks like. Those folks are truly hopeless at this stage.
