Penn St & Arkansas are the only two P5 openings right now. Unless he goes to the NFL

An OC/DC pairing of Long and Odom would make that one of the best tandems in the country. But since I've learned that whatever Arkansas fans believe is going to happen never comes to fruition, I'm skeptical if we can pull that combo off. Although it does help that Arkansas is maybe seen as a somewhat stable place now that Pittman is brand new and he's going to get some years, as opposed to Texas where one more 6-6 campaign and They're probably hunting for another new HC.
It also seems that people actually want to work for Sam.

Went back and watched highlights of a few ND games this year. My lord is that isn’t like watching a mesh of Petrino and some Spread offense. Pitt just needs to walk into HY’s office and say we’re going to need 3.5 mil for coordinators alone and give Barry and Chip 1.75 a piece. They are worth it. Henry, Knox and Burks would wreck shop.

Regarding Chip Long, Richard Davenport said a ND reporter texted him saying he thought Chip may be coming here...

I think Chip Long would be a nice addition to the staff. He also might like a situation like Arkansas where he'd get a lot more control of the offense than he had at ND.

If true this gives me a little more confidence that it's coming from a ND reporter.
Our guys clearly don't know what the hell is going on.

I think it was ND reporter that first reported the Sam Pittman stuff? I’ve tried to find it in twitter but I’m almost positive it was. I may be wrong in the but I think it was him then Thamel was the next to report it.
Memphis needs to hurry the heck up and hire somebody already

It was a ND guy that first really broke the Sam Pittman smoke that Sunday afternoon. He didn't have a ton of followers but was a legit local reporter who obviously had some good sources. Feldman and Lowe then put it out about an hour or so later a d it was basically a done deal by then.
"I want to believe!"
I just feel you've got to have an OC in place by the early signing day

This is what Matt Jones we ArDemGaz had to say about long.
quote:
I liked covering Chip. He was a straight shooter. Petrino had his GAs coach the tight ends, so we would talk to him on occasion, which is rare for GAs. He reminded me a lot of Petrino in how hard he coached his players and in some of the things he would say in his interviews. I doubt that changed much working for someone like Brian Kelly.

Dude could run the Petrino offense to a T with RPO stuff mixed in.
Go get this man...

A Petrino offense with the young receivers we have and a Pittman OL.

Trey Biddy
@TreyBiddy
Hogs eyeing former Notre Dame OC Chip Long for Arkansas OC job? He comes from Petrino's tree and was a GA at Arkansas under him. Also looks to be a candidate for the Memphis HC job. Here's more #wps (FREE):

Basically we need Memphis to name a head coach so we can get on with this.

He speaks about Petrino and his offense a bit at the 3:40 mark.
He almost reminds me of what a Young Petrino would have been minus the Harlot and Harley...

Yes, more or less, for both of our coordinator spots. I had been told Odom was all but official as DC. So much for that crap. Sorry for the misleading info, guys.
