... And they "just couldn't figure out" why the fanbase was so adament against him?
Welp... Reason #266689 why I and many others were desperately hoping we stayed away from this guy:
Fuente hates tranfers

VA Tech recruiting ranked 70th

I never understood all the Sunshine pumping Arkansas media guys had with this guy when he was mentioned as a candidate. He's shite at recruitng, actually hates it, and even sits in a pretty prime area for talent.l and still sucks.

He's not even a good game coach. He can't beat Virginia and players have been fleeing his program for years now.

I think its pretty obvious that the staff of up and comers he hired was filled of the next big names in coaching when Memphis didn't skip a beat after landing him a job at a top program.

What's worse is hiring a guy who's program actually improves after he leaves over one of Fuentes staff members at Memphis.

They just couldn’t let themselves believe that Arkansas would pay a whole bunch of money to fire two guys and then go out and hire a guy that had never been at least a coordinator.

Fortunately there are plenty of examples of position coaches being highly successful as head coaches in both the NFL and College levels.

The key to the Pittman hire was his ability to recruit, getting someone like Odom on the staff that can have frank game management discussions, and being able to evaluate the roster quickly.

He’s done all that and far exceeded my expectations in recruiting this “short cycle” class.

Homie is an animal on the recruiting trail.

Miss on Criswell? Ok.... go get Feleipe Franks AND Hornsby. Both were more highly rated than Criswell. That’s called being a frickin BOSS.

No OL committed? No problem, go jack the highest rated OLineman from both Missou AND Ole Piss.

Lol.

I forgot recruiting could be fun.

I think the reporters just want to be in the inner circle. They think by pushing a name out there that they can show later they were all in for them. If they fail, they fail and they get to then push the next guy, win/win for them.

Biddy admitted later that Fuente flat out said “I wouldn’t touch Arkansas with a 10 foot pole” BOT members must’ve been pushing for him or something. We dodged a bullet there

Fuente got a name simply because he lucked out with Paxton Lynch. He’s a nobody, and being 70th in recruiting at Virginia Tech should be grounds for termination. Even Bud Foster has seen enough.

I remained fairly neutral throughout the search, because I worried more about us fricking up, than I worried about getting a great HC. But Fuente and Gus were 2 of a few candidates that I was strongly against. Gus seemed like a longshot, but I worried deeply about Fuente.

Pittman was actually one of my favorite candidates, but I was okay with most of them. In the end, Matt Campbell was the only one who I'd even put on the same level as Pittman, although Leach may prove better than expected.

I smell what you're steppin in and agree with the general sentiment but let us not forget that Pittman wasn't even on the Hill's radar until he reached out. Even then, he wasn't top banana as far as the selection pool went.

I dig the full buy in on the Pittman though. If I remember correctly the fan base was like "'frick it, bring him on.''Cant get much worse, can it?'"

This is an example of why I love Razorback fans. The short memories and revisionist histories. It's also what frustrates other fan bases so much, it's like we're too stupid to be trolled and too hard headed to reason with.

Being a position coach and having not coached during Yurachek’s time here probably factored in to that quite a bit.

I don’t think Yurachek knew that Pittman was from “the area”, had “Arkansas head coaching ambitions”, or frankly how he would stack up against the rest of the pack in recruiting Arkansas.

Swanson’s letter probably got his attention, Pittman’s agent certainly did. This coaching hire made as much sense as tossing a butt load of Monday at Kiffin in a bidding war with Ole Piss.

Talking to Pittman and his wife about “wanting to be at Arkansas and being irritated at pretty much being run off” when he was filling his end of his coaching obligation was easy to smell out. His agent would have been able to explain most of that without Pittman getting his hands dirty with it.

Going from #120-something in recruiting in December to #29 is a magic trick that I’m pretty sure Yurachek thought was impossible and only confirmed that he made the right choice. Couple all that with bringing in Odom, Briles, Davis (who is my favorite coach of the bunch), and the S&C staff at Georgia (in part) probably left Yurachek beside himself feeling that things are “trending” in the right direction.

I don’t have Yurachek’s direct line, but have heard from some people that he is more than pleased at the outcomes in the past 45 days.

Thanks bud, I usually just come here for comedy and to be a smartass. I try not to pump too much sunshine, but this hire seems to be going well.
