do you honestly think the razorback bball job would attract a top tier, championship caliber coach?
Chris Beard made 1.5 mil at Texas Tech last year. We paid Anderson 2.55.

Anderson is the 25th best paid coach in the country for making the tournament half the time. I guarantee you there's a better coach out there willing to take that paycheck.

lets task an unproven AD and unknown and possibly dysfunctional athletic department with finding us the next Nolan. should be a piece of cake.
Let's sit and do nothing and watch as Arkansas basketball continues to stray further and further away from any sort of relevance in the national or conference scene. That sounds better.

There is probably enough good players from tulsa to memphis for us to be good most years.

There's enough players in our own state to be good most years. Mike just can't recruit them.

Total hyperbole. The program hasnt bottomed out, its just been OK.

Know what happens to programs when theres no plan in place? You get over a decade of irrelevance, real irrelevance, not what we are now.

Id just like to see some evidence that the AD knows what they are doing before hitting the reset button.

Ive never seen this board so obsessed with a coach as Beard. Do people not understand he WANTS to be at Tech? We would have hired him and been embarrassed like unlv when he pulled a Altman and bailed.

I wonder if this is an age thing? To the people who experienced the Eddie Sutton, and then Nolan Richardson eras, the program has absofrickinglutely bottomed out. To the people who only saw the Eddie Sutton and Nolan Richardson eras on grainy videos on youtube, the program has been ok.

Its a reality thing. It bottomed out under pelph. Weve been climbing up slowly since.

The climb has plateau'd. We are about to miss our 5th tournament in Mike's 8 years. For reference, from 1977 - 2001 we missed the tournament 3 times. I was alive and have memories of most of those years. Yes they really happened.

Had he coached for one season at, let's say, Texas State instead of Little Rock, I'm not sure we would even know his name. But the fact of the matter is that he did a very impressive job at Little Rock in that one season, and he has turned Texas Tech, a true basketball nobody, into a top 10 team in just his third year.

Here's another name. Buzz Williams. He has taken basketball powerhouse Virginia Tech to consecutive NCAA tournaments, and he's now ranked in the top 10 in just year 5.

Well, that's the slowest climb in the history of climbing. For reference:

Eddie Sutton: 11 years, 260-75 (77.6%)
NCAA tournament 8-11 years (72.7%), R1-4, R2-1, 16-2, E8-1. 5 Conference Championships.

Nolan Richardson: 17 years, 390-170 (69.6%)
NCAA tournament 13-17 years (76.4%), R1-3, R2-4, Sweet 16-2, Elite 8-1, Final 4-1, Finals-1, National Champ-1. 7 Conference Championships.

Stan Heath: 5 years, 82-71 (53.6%)
NCAA tournament 2-5 years (40%), R1-2. 0 Conference Championships.

John Pelphrey: 4 years, 69-59 (53.9%)
NCAA tournament 1-4 years (25%), R2-1. 0 Conference Championships.

Mike Anderson: 7 years, 151-85 (63.9%)
NCAA tournament 3-7 years (42.8%), R1-1, R2-2. 0 Conference Championships.

So since Nolan, Arkansas 16 years, 302-215 (58.4%)
NCAA tournament 6-16 years (37.5%), R1-3, R2-3. 0 Conference Championships.

We have been bouncing along the bottom for 16 years, Mike Anderson has just made us bounce a little higher along the bottom.

If we miss the tournament this year, Mike will have a lower percentage of making the tourney than Stan.

I knew it was bad, but not that bad.

I wanted Anderson here, but he isn't getting it done. Not even close, and I don't see any progression toward any significant improvement.

Thats my point. I doubt many here know much about college ball that takes place outside the states borders, and the idea that the hogs had any chance at landing Beard is absurd.

Was a known commodity after his time at Marquette, and was on the wish list for many after pelph got the axe. Wouldve been/would be a great hire.

If things would have lined up better, I don't think it is absurd to think he could have picked Arkansas over Tech. I know plenty about his connections to Tech and the state of Texas. Having said that, I do think we would have an issue keeping him if Texas made a run at him after some success.

He made it to the Sweet Sixteen with UAB and to the Elite Eight with Missouri. As to Arkansas, he just needs a little more time.
