And any other mike fan out there. How many years without a sweet 16 appearance do you give him? Or is making the tournament every year good enough for you? I would just like to know your baseline because maybe it's our expectations that are different when it comes to razorback athletics

We don't even do that. Not even close.

do you honestly think the razorback bball job would attract a top tier, championship caliber coach? do you think we have a chance at landing a jay wright or mark few? what about the next tier down like tony bennett or marshall? not likely. what about guys like hamilton or mike brey?

who do you think would be a good hire? for sure, there are upgrades over MA, but who would be a good fit? everyone wants to fire mike, but i dont see anyone throwing out names for replacing him.

since MA isnt going anywhere until after next season anyway, itll be interesting to see how darrell walker does here in LR.

I just do not know enough about basketball coaches all over the country to really know who we could get over mike, but its to the point i know that mike is not recruiting well enough to be anymore than he has been.

yes i do actually. We are one of the top basketball programs in the sec from a tradition standpoint. Hell before pelphrey we were an easy no.2 behindul, then florida got donovan so I'd put us around 3 now. Either way we are an elite program with good in state talent. Lots of coaches would want to come here, and you dont always have to hire a big name anyway. Lots of schools hire guys from smaller teams, across all sports thats how coaching changes work. You might have to take a little bibit of a risk but being on the bubble every year and getting bounced game 1 isnt gonna cut it. Even if the next guy fails you go out and find another one until you find one that fits

Yes. The tournament format is a crap shoot, saying you "expect" a Sweet 16 is so arbitrary and is just used as a bludgeon for Mike because he hasn't done it here yet. Before Mike, people who now want him fired were saying they just want to make the tournament every year.

Do you really think if Mike won the UNC game and made the Sweet 16 two years ago that these people would be happy? Of course not, they want blood and they would just move the goalposts like they already have. They would say "year 8 and no Elite 8" and bring up Chris Beard like they are now.

im not sure what metric youre using to elevate us to "elite." the admins allowed the SEC to pass us by. and if you think we are in a position to poach one of the top coaches in the nation, id argue youre outlook is incredibly skewed.

like stan heath and john pelphry and darrin horn and anthony grant and cuonzo martin and and and and.

its a not "a little bit of risk," its a huge gamble that can take a program decades to get right. some ADs have the magic touch, some programs have built in advantages or solid support systems behind the scenes, but right now i dont think arkansas has any of that. we do have pretty solid instate talent, but not enough, and we dont produce elite talent regularly.

now, we could turn this around real fast ala Miss St and start writing checks, but with so much heat coming down on schools that seems like a dangerous choice until all these investigations wrap up.

theres a guy like hoiberg, but he has zero history of sustaining a program and already bolted on his alma mater for greener pastures, so he doesnt seem like a long term option at all. musselman could be interesting, but id wager hes pretty happy staying out west.

i know there are better coaches out there, and i do think MA has a certain plateau. id be fine with a change, i just dont see where an upgrade comes from, just shots in the dark.

but until then, im not gonna melt down every time we lose a game.

and nick saban at Michigan state Barry switzer at ou, gus malzhan at Auburn, nolan Richardson at ARKANSAS. Remember he was at Tulsa and we got rid of Eddie sutton for him? The way you get good coaches isnt usually from poaching them from other big schools once they're established

would you compare Broyles judgement to Hunter Yuracheks?

by all means, lets task an unproven AD and unknown and possibly dysfunctional athletic department with finding us the next Nolan. should be a piece of cake.

If we went and hired Nolan from Tulsa today, he'd get roasted everywhere

Nolan won at every level.
Mike, not so much.

Just stop comparing Mike and Nolan.

Mike can’t hold Nolan’s jock.

Bobby Portis blatantly stating that we didnt run plays while he was here is more than enough to justify wanting anderson fired.

You could say the same thing about Tennessee football and they had a disaster of a coaching search though.

its true, we dont run plays. we run a motion offense that is very reliant on players reacting to in-game situations. MA has been ahead of the curve on this style of offense. Brad Stevens doesnt run plays either.

Portis landing with Thibodeau would have been the same kind of culture shock as if Bo Ryan had taken over.

though i agree our players have lacked in really grasping alot of the concepts and that goes on MA, obviously.

eta: wrong on Stevens. he ran a motion but had tons of built in plays off it.

I just want to say that we are nothing, but above average. There is 8 years of evidence to see this is all we will be with mike. We should be good. There is probably enough good players from tulsa to memphis for us to be good most years.
