The Walton and Tyson grandkids were pushing drag queen story hour in schools at one point. Also both wanted to move the HQ to NYC or set up a satellite office there.. think it was mostly the girls.

Hasn’t there been some study before that third generation money is where it tends to go off the rails? I feel like I’ve seen that before.

I’ve seen a few exceptions but not many. One family comes to mind. They make the children work just like the rest of us. This family is also a major backer of the U of A.

Kids see the parents make the money, know what it takes. Grandkids have always had the money and spend it on stupid causes instead of just running the business they inherited. Greatest Generation, Silent Generation and boomers.

true story, sitting across from a church this morning and something sounded like a double barrel shotgun going off...
Called a friend of mine who is a police officer.. this was in the middle of town, he drove by, did a bit of checking and realized that a larger transformer just blew causing all of the electricity to go out for quite a ways.

Our population is 3.1m if 10% gave $100 bucks a year, that would be over $30m. Before you get to the big boosters.
The problem is everyone wants to think their money went to something and they are getting a value. They could just make an app that runs the radio program and has 3-5 pods/interviews in it per year and people would subscribe for $10 a month.

This. Their median income may be lower but there are a lot of wealthy folks, as you said, and there are a lot more oilfield and refinery workers that may not necessarily be "wealthy" but make a very good living. And having worked with a lot of them, those are exactly the type of people that would be making a lot of these smaller donations to collectives.

Cool, I knew a rich person that lived there once, so they have money story. Good job boomer. I know statistics aren’t your thing but objectively they are the poorest state by multiple metrics.
What you just said would be me saying I met a Walton once, so Arkansas has the most money ever, frick Texas..

As I stated in my post, Ole Miss fans knew they had to step up with donations to be competitive and Lane was their coach. It was initially an investment to keep him and fund NIL so that he wouldn't leave for a bigger program if he could compete there. That was the thinking.
I doubt they would have gotten that involved if Matt Luke was still their coach. They've had a lot more to be excited about in recent years than we have and it's not that close.

I don't know how other schools do it but I believe when you donate to NIL you can choose which sport it goes to and most choose basketball over football to my understanding and another portion choose baseball. So even if the state were to donate $30M total, $20M of that is going to basketball/baseball and not football.
I think it would be really hard to log in to your account to drop a $10K donation and choose football. And it also helps that for the next several years running, that money could legitimately contribute to a national title in either of those other two sports.

I agree, I don’t personally know how to change it. Because you can’t say hey we are now in the $50m game because then other schools would just price is right you. $50m and 1 dollar.. but this whole thing has been fumbled since 2020 when Hunter didn’t want to get into a bidding war for Kiffin, then he has nickel and dimed and counted toilet paper squares for every hire, NIL, etc. I believe that’s why Briles left in the first place. He didn’t say I’ll take a haircut on my raises though.
This all comes to Hunter, and any of the BOT that has allowed it to happen.
