Yeah the 10 runs with two outs probably had to do with more of the loss there

Or the 10 walks and 2 HBP to give them 12 free base runners.

But let’s blame it on the bats.

I think pitching Noland is a great idea.

I'm inclined to think DVH will roll Smith and Tygart out tonight and save Conner for tomorrow.

It’s a bit of both, honestly. Our bats and arms seem get out of sync at the wrong times.

We’ll rake against Stanford and only give up 2, then go quiet against Ole Miss and also give up 13. After scoring 11 and only giving up 1 last night, I fully expect our bats to go to sleep and our pitchers to simultaneously turn into Nuke Laloosh and get shelled tonight.

Ole Miss game 1 was squarely on the pitching, though. You’re never going to win giving up 2-2-2 in the first 3 innings. Period. Our poor pitching put way too much pressure on our offense.

Why do you and a few others keep harping on the bats?

Because unless we start Noland, I expect Ole Miss to score. Four or five runs might not be enough.

We were gifted a run in the first, had a nice second and then did NOTHING until a bomb on a low-leverage pitch in the 9th. We need more than that. We're going to have to chase their starter early.

I’d love to see the stats vs lefties. It feels like the BA goes down 100 points. Standard didn’t pick up on that. Bianco knows us inside and out.

After Gaddis, they don't really have any more quality lefty's to throw at us to my knowledge and I don't think (at least statistically) he has pitched near as well as Elliot has.

The best guys they have rested are Gaddis, diamond and Johnson.

They pitched that same combo against us a month ago and gave up 10 hits and 3 BB's. However, we only scored 4 runs on that outing.

If we do go with Smith tonight surely Ole Miss can't defy what the numbers say two games in a row right? Keep waiting for them to regress to the mean of what they've been most of the season.

I can handle them hitting Hagen a little as long as we're not walking so many people. That's the frustrating part.

That's the key, and not just not walking, but pitching ahead in the count. Our pitching will keep us in the game if they do that.

I guess it bears mentioning too that if you have any chance at all in the championship series Noland's best bet to pitch again would be to pitch tonight.
Not sure you can think that far ahead bc a LOT of things have to go right to get that far!

I think it is worth seeing if Smith has good stuff tonight. If he and Tygart can pull a W, then we have Noland tomorrow and a big edge. DVH tried pitching Noland on short rest and it just didn't work. More chance Smith has good stuff....if he doesn't...then bet the farm.

Starting Smith with a quick trigger to go to Noland tonight would give us the best chance to get to next weekend in my opinion.

That’s a watchout with both Smith and Tygart.

They both have a penchant for getting their pitch counts stretched early, getting behind in counts, and giving up free base runners.

I don’t know if we keep track of pitch count per platter faced, but I’d hazard a guess that those two have two of the highest.

I’ve come around to Noland starting. I don’t think you insert him in relief unless you’re in the game and in kitchen sink mode.

Main concern I have with Smith is whether he can mix in offspeed. We can’t expect to just blow it by this lineup consistently, at least not the way they’ve been hitting this past month.

The Ole Miss bats gave the knee to the gut against our pitching on Monday. I expect the pitching to give up some runs today and the bats need to be ready.

The problem with the bats is they go cold at the wrong times. Monday was the fault of pitching and scoring 3-5 runs isn't enough to beat this ball club especially considering how much they hate Arkansas.

Any chance that DVH and Bianco make a gentleman’s agreement not to throw their ace Thursday? Okie should have a rested staff.
