Welp. That wasn't ideal.

I expected pitching woes. I did not expect to be unable to hit Illinois State caliber pitching.

Same old shite from the Super Regionals. HR or bust. And we're busting way too much. This is pathetic that they didn't learn anything in the off season.

The hitting lost us this game, but we need to get rid of Hobbs.

I'm not even convinced on Nate Thompson anymore at this point.

To be honest I'm not either. Very feast or famine.

I miss Wes Johnson so much.

Last 7 games:
Today: 4 hits (.129 batting average)
NC State: 4 hits (.124 BA)
NC State: 4 hits (.125 BA)
NC State: 17 hits (fluke)
Nebraska: 4 hits (.125 BA)
Nebraska: 4 hits (.124 BA)
Nebraska: 5 hits (.156 BA)
Not sure who watched today, but I've never in my life seen hitters swing as hard as ours do. Every single pitch they swing as hard as they possibly can.

quote:Infuriates me. Every single person in the box was trying to tie the game with one swing. Some were swinging at such extreme angles that even if they hit the ball flush it wouldn't have gone anywhere but up.

Extremely interested to see what Starks looks like. The older guys aren't getting it done.
Starks had electric stuff. He struck out their best hitter who was like 3/4. He's obviously still a work in progress but he needs to get a lot of innings. The rest of the guys today are just good enough to get us beat in SEC play.
I didn't really like the batting order. Stovall doesn't look ready to be leading off. I'd put bob Moore there. Also Lanzili needs to be hitting 3 or 4. He's a grown arse man.

Not ready to jump off a bridge, but definitely concerned with the offense. 3 runs should be very doable to overcome.
This offense was supposed to be the second coming. It appears that they've read the press clippings on themselves and assumed they could just show up and pull down their pants and wow the opposing team.

Sadly, this is what they're coached to do.

That’s what basically every team is coached to do. Even in youth baseball it’s about exit velo and launch angle. The strikeouts in MLB are skyrocketing. The strikeout percentage has climbed to 24% and the record for no hitters in a season (that was 137 years old) was broken last year.

And I'm guessing fewer and fewer people are watching
I get analytics but this is still very much entrainment and it's no longer entertaining.
I started watching baseball around 88-89 and couldn't wait to see a Cubs WS... I was elated when it happened but my love for major league baseball has continued to drop since then
Oh, and frick Manfred and the NL DH

That spring/summer of 16 we had a blast in those Cubs threads. They're were so good all season long. Never lost 5 games in a row.
I agree though, the Cubs along with nearly every other team just swings for the fences and it's killed what baseball was about. The nuance, the strategy, the thinking.

It’s game 1. Who cares. Sometimes you have off days in baseball. If we lose the series then I’ll be worried. Let’s see how they respond today and tomorrow

Its not just a 1 game thing. This goes back to the end of last year. Its a pattern.
