LITTLE ROCK — Less than three weeks after the departure of the first assistant coach he hired at Arkansas, Razorbacks head coach Eric Musselman has filled the vacancy with a familiar face in Cal State Fullerton associate head coach Gus Argenal, according to sources. Argenal was on Musselman’s staff for his last two seasons at Nevada before Musselman took the job at Arkansas in early April 2019. Argenal served as an assistant coach (2017-18) then associate head coach (’18-19) under Musselman in Reno, Nev., before Musselman moved on to Fayetteville and Argenal moved on to Fullerton for the ’19-20 season.

Solid, not bad considering there is the idea now that coaches hate working for Muss (not that it is a big deal)

Good to see a former assistant come back but I do wonder why Muss didn't take him to Arkansas or why Gus didn't want to come with him

Yeah I never even noticed Crutchfield went to Oregon. Definitely attributes to that Muss rumor, he left for D2 head coach job for one season before going back to same college assistant role.

This guy seems like a whatever meh hire. Muss runs the ship so his mice can be whoever.

Pretty sure he stayed behind at Nevada to pursue their HC job.

I think its solid just because of his familiarity with Muss, the only legit concern would be recruiting because I believe he has been on the West Coast his whole career. Muss does like recruiting that area and we have some active ones over there though so maybe that will work out well.

Yeah I read that the players pushed for him which I guess is a good sign. Just wonder if Muss would have taken him if that was out of play or if he felt he needed to upgrade.

Argenal: To work for Muss, you have to be fired up every day. He does more in the mid morning than most of us do in a month. As long as you’re willing to work & do what he wants, it’s a great set up. He’s a fun guy but when it time to go, it gets serious.

He certainly seems to have appreciation for the Razorback brand, which I dig.

Muss' staff is and will be the closest thing in college bball to the NBA. That should sell itself.

I also wouldn't be opposed to him taking on Solomon Bozeman just to be an in state recruiter.

Haven’t heard that name in a while. He beat my HS team in the semis. Been a while but i think he made the game winner at the buzzer.
