Florida - hired Mullen
Ole Miss - gave Matt Luke the permanent gig
Tennessee - absolute dumpster fire drawing media ire
Texas A&M - shooting for the moon (Jimbo)
Mississippi State - we’re not even shopping in the same store. They’re allegedly looking at Pruitt and Todd Monken (former USM coach, current Bucs OC).

Remember when we were going to be shite out of luck because we were going to have to duke it out with all these SEC schools for the same candidates?

I member.

Yepppp.... Amazing how that shite works out... Evey school has different needs for coaches and different things they are looking for... Hell, we actually are sitting as pretty as anybody in the conference right now. With A&M shooting for the freakin moon right now and the absolute shite show that is Tennessee right now (probably our closest competition for coaches) we're in the driver's seat if we act swiftly.

We have already shown that we give a coach AMPLE time to coach and we pay market value or above.... Plus the way things are now, we actually loom pretty sane.

Tennessee has to have the most incompetent AD I've ever seen. It's embarrassing.

Their previous guy hired fricking Derek Dooley and Butch Jones... Then the new guy tried to hire Butch Jones 2.0....its incredible... They seriously need to hire Jeff Long right now.

He at least knows how to handle shite shows in the short term

Yep.

A few of us said as much when all the handwringing over the potential openings started a few weeks ago when Florida came open. Different schools have different strengths and areas of opportunity and different criteria for which they need to make a hire. It’s not like a fantasy football draft auction.

A&M is the girl at the dance who’s a 6 but thinks she’s a 10. They’ll do a full court press on someone like Jimbo or an NFL coach and wind up with Chad Morris or Rich Rod.

Tennessee is an absolute shitshow right now. Rightly or wrongly, they’re going to take a PR hit over this — watch for the “they’ll hate anyone who isn’t Gruden” narrative — and potentially scare quality candidates away with how this went down. It doesn’t help that their talking heads whipped the fan base into a frenzy for the last few months promising that Gruden really was coming this time, for real. Plus, their AD may get fired over this Schiano business, especially now that their state legislature got involved and every politician across the state is tripping all over himself to make the most of his opportunity to grandstand.

State just lost their best coach in program history, who flirted with every job under the sun until he was finally able to land his ticket out of town. Mullen left that program in *much* better shape than it was in when he got there, but they’re not shopping from the same bin as we are.

Rumor is Frank Wilson has already essetially been hired at State. Good, solid move for them. It was either him or UAB coach.

I just said something about this on the CC board, Arkansas and A&M are licking their chops since UT self-destructed (not that it would've mattered anyway, they were aiming for Schiano ). UF, OM, and UCLA are off the board with candidates that UofA wasn't even in the running for.

Norvell is still on the board and VERY much a candidate, but there was a slight issue that moved him down a few pegs. I was told that it isn't something that would "intersect" with football, which sounds like racing/casino gambling and not sports betting if you choose to believe that rumor.

Regardless with these latest events a few more doors were opened and the search will slow down a bit while more options are weighed, the feeling being that Norvell is still in their back pocket. Some of our more impatient fans will think that it's a mess and wonder why it's taking so long, when in reality they're doing the smart thing.

I'm at the station checking ticket prices for a ride on the Lane train, still a little skeptical since this would be his second time to leave a job after one year for another. Would make for some epic Bama game weeks though.

Take this for what it’s worth, but I don’t think we have spoke with Kiffin.

I’ve been told the only major to reach out to Mike Norvell is Arizona State.

As compared to?

Florida hiring a guy who is dismal when facing ranked competition?

Tennessee who is a little bad PR from choosing between an alum OC with no HC experience while hoping an alum with a 2-20 something HC record will have interest in the job and position coaches?

Aggy who is trying to shoot the moon while their obvious to everyone else choice ends up landing a spot elsewhere?

OM who hired the interim after being shutdown by all candidates reached out too?

If its worse than that then yeah, I'll be disappointed, but it isn't.

That rumor IS out there amongst some of the PTB but there's so much flying around right now that it'll probably take a while to know the 100% truth.

I personally don't think it's true unless it's moving at light speed with him, at this point it would be a teleconference or meeting off-site that took place today most likely.

Haven't seen anything official, but ok. Now Mississippi State is in the market.

Ole Miss - gave Matt Luke the permanent gig

Ok, they were never a concern in the first place, with their NCAA trouble.

quote:

Tennessee - absolute dumpster fire drawing media ire

They've apparently thrown gasoline on a dumpster fire, but could still pull a good coach. It's looking less and less likely, but they're still Tennessee.

Texas A&M - shooting for the moon (Jimbo)

Fisher has played a few schools for raises, but ok. If they get it done, that puts Florida State in the market. If not, they are still a threat to take a good coach. Our situation doesn't improve either way.

Pruitt is one we should interview, whether we are serious about him or not.

So, how exactly has our situation improved? By possibly having Mississippi State and Florida State in the market for a coach?

We now have Florida, aTm, Tennessee, Nebraska, UCLA, and Arkansas in the market for a coach, with possible additions of Florida State, Mississippi State, and maybe Meatchicken too.

Bielema had to go, but nothing has improved for us yet.

Florida hired Mullen and UCLA hired Chip Kelly.

So, that adds Mississippi State to aTm, Tennessee, Arkansas, Nebraska, and Arizona State which I left out. If Jimbo goes to aTm, that adds Florida. Still not seeing improvement in our situation.
