Jones played WR his sophomore and junior years at Van Buren. He played QB when he transferred to Fort Smith Northside.

I remember it was between Arkansas and Oklahoma. Oklahoma wanted him at WR and Arkansas wanted him at QB. Jones wanted to play QB and Nutt desperate for any QBs said ok.

And he moved him to wr to start the game, back to QB to bail him out.

The QB problems for Nutt began when highly recruited Gary Brashears left practice after failing a conditioning test. He was supposed to compete with Robbie Hampton for the starting job but left Arkansas in February 2001. I believe he was the highest rated QB until Mitch Mustain.

That left Arkansas in a tough situation. Gerald Howard and Ryan Sorahan began the season still in a QB controversy until Nutt took the redshirt off of Matt Jones before the Weber State game.

According to the 2001 24/7sports composite rankings, he wasn't ranked in the top 100 and the list only goes back to 131.

Where are these composite rankings you speak of?

Rivals did not start its ranking system until May 2001 and its first full class rankings until 2002.

I do remember Matt Jones was a high three star and he was recruited either as a QB or WR by numerous programs.

He was supposedly being recruited by Virginia tech to be the replacement for Michael Vick.

Nutt picked him up in a batmobile at the airport.

Batman liked the track program and that was a big reason he came here.

This was first year of the Mark Richt era and Georgia was a middle of the pack SEC program. A lot of SEC schools such as Tennessee got good players out of Georgia and couldn't put a fence around the state like they have recently.

It helped Arkansas was an elite track program that he liked.

I do believe he rode in a Batmobile and if Nutt was the driver then it would have been an Adam West Batmobile.

LINK

That has just a couple players ranked that really makes no sense on how they are rated.

Rivals was it back then and they did not go public with any team rankings or player rankings until 2002. It was formed around 1998-99 but nothing outside of a few select schools who had a bigger online presence. Scout was also around close to the same time, but nothing noteworthy.

You had Emfinger, Lemming/ESPN, and that was about it in regards to credible recruiting services. The rivals 100 was out but it rated only 100 players, which Jones was the #31 QB.

Matt Jones was one of the most highly coveted recruits in the region at QB. He would not be a 3 star recruit.

His decision came down to Arkansas, Oklahoma, Miami, and Tennessee.

So let's say you're an all world elite talent whose future is dependent on their football career and making it to the pros. Why would you come here over your other offer? How much would we need to pay for you to risk bad coaching, weak player development, weak surrounding talent, low media coverage years, no bowl game, etc

bad coaching, weak player development,
these two are huge but let’s not forget our coaches also seem bad at player evaluation. Jerry jacobs was one of the worst starting corners in the nfl this year but by god he was an nfl starter still! And we benched his arse in favor of Hudson Clark. Now I’m not saying Hudson has done terrible, hell he probably had the best game of his career after that but there should’ve been somewhere we could’ve used jacobs. Not to mention the decision to allow the corpse of bumper pool to trot out there again and again when we had better players behind him.

Jerry Jacobs I believe opted out of the middle of the 2020 season.

Hudson Clark like many players at the safety positions are a mismatch for most WRs in single coverage.

He is good at providing coverage support and makes good tackles. So he plays his position well. I don't know why he gets shite on when his fellow DBs who have more responsibility, get burned each game.

This is the answer. No way we’d have pulled him just for FB.

Georgia wasn't an attractive program at that time and so he was looking to leave the state.

I guess if he didn't go to Arkansas then it would be Tennessee, knowing the massive cheating was involved.

Didn’t disagree other than if you’re saying he would’ve chosen us over tenner if he were just going out for football, I’d say hell no at that time. Everyone was getting bags and going to Tennessee to play for Crispy Crème.
