You're such a genius. Surely they haven't "tried" at all, they should hire you as their recruiting coordinator for this revelation! You're living in 1990. The landscape has completely changed.

Do you have any idea how fricking dirty Memphis AAU basketball recruiting is? You can't just "go in and try" as you have somehow put it.

We're not going to play dirty and its going to be tough. Similar to what is going on in football right now but probably worse overall with AAU basketball.

This team is pretty shite and Mike is def. to blame but I'll give him another cycle to see how things pan out. Not ready to try some up and comer shite house again.

Everyone is praising the Florida dude, but people need to give him a few seasons to own his own program. He's still running on Billy D mojo. After all, John Pelphrey was able to win a freaking NCAAT game with players that weren't his.

i'm so sick of everyone talking about how recruiting is dirty and we're above that. While yes we aren't paying players and it's costing us some not every kid in the country is dirty.

There are plenty of good players who aren't asking for money or handouts they're just picking other programs either because we're not recruiting them or our coaches aren't making a connection to them. There definitely are enough of these kids to fill out a roster better than mike is filling out his rosters currently.

Such an enlightening post...I had no idea Fordham pays recruits.

Stop making excuses.

Everyone hands over cash. It's at every university.

Freshmen can't hide it well and it's obvious at the mall following football games.

I never said we're above that. But it's clear we are not actively involved with AAU handlers and retainers. Similar to football.

And I'm sure we offer some extra money, but not nearly on the level that other programs are offering.

Just echoing your brilliance. And "everyone hands over cash?" Really? Did you see how Louisville was recruiting its national championship players? How about UNC?

"Hey PAW! I just can't understand why Mike Anderson hasn't thought of recruiting Memphis based on connections with Todd Day, unbelievable!"

You seem very mad and also a very good excuse maker for Mike.

Congrats

of course he's mad. He either believes we're paying players and doing a shitty job at it or we're above reproach right now and shouldn't fault mike for his shitty recruiting because we aren't playing dirty.

I find it absolutely ridiculous that the mike anderson defenders will so easily talk out of both sides of their mouth depending on how mike is attacked. He's far from perfect and has a weakness. When we realize how short on bodies and thin we are next year everyone will be saying give the man another year after we fail to make the NCAA tournament because we're thin but now we have player xyz coming in so that should help our depth.

Wait wut?

The fact that I know we aren't running a prostitution dorm (Louisville), a pre-NBA paid scout camp via WWW (UK) or running a massive, campus wide academic scandal(UNC) means I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth?

And I'm not mad, just calling you and Browneye out on the relentless bullshite you constantly spew about our basketball program.

Where am I defending Mike? I've said time and time again he's 100% to blame for our troubles this year. I've also said we aren't getting a better, lower risk coach than him to stabilize our program. It ain't happening.

If logical reason=anger to you and browneye, so be it.

I'd rather sound mad all day long than like a has been, living in the past Finebaum broken record caller.

ah I see so it's only cheating if it's some crazy outrageous cheating scheme. Paying players isn't really cheating.....

well mike isn't exactly stabilizing us either. He maybe building something but i'm not sure what that is anymore. I'm in favor of 1 more year but after 6 years if we're still going to struggle to make any kind of post season play then we need to cut bait. it sucks and we might do worse but we might do better. The other option I see as completely realistic is to cut the basketball budget down and just give up.

something else to consider is while past searches have been shite shows I don't believe they were done while jeff long was on staff. Maybe you give him another shot to figure it out if this isn't working. The remedy for something that isn't working isn't to continue to do it, change is scary but at times you take that risk to embrace the possibility that you can do better.

Don't disagree with any of this. But I'm saying he's more than likely going to make the NCAAT next year and thus, won't be on the hot seat. If he doesn't then he def. should be and we should look to move in another direction.

And you're arguing semantics with the "cheating" shite.

We simply do not pull strings on the level that other "elite" programs do. Is that simple enough for you to agree with?

I'm far less confident we make the NCAAT next year. We might but it's going to take next year being a much much better team than this year. They'll need the ability to win on the road which is always tough but especially tough for new guys to come in and gel.

I can agree with that. however what is the difference in penalties between just giving players cash and what the other teams are doing? Seems like we're taking a big risk for almost no reward. While the other guys are taking a big risk but able to gain a big reward.

I like how KeVaughn Allen is a beast for UF and Whitt has been very meh at best. Allen is winning games for UF like tonight dropping 19 at UGA to win them that game.

Sigh.

Losing to this absolutely awful Auburn team, at home, should result in instant firing postgame.

What a fricking joke.
