Yeah I’m struggling to think of a DC we’ve had that fans actually liked outside of one fluke year like Robb Smith in 2014

Try. Odom did have some good defense players at Missouri

In Odom's defense he did blitz once this season against UAPB. That or our LBs got bored and decided to try it just once for giggles.

I’m not saying fire Odom and I don’t think most other people are either I’m just saying it would be nice if he mixed up the defense every once in a while

Smith took advantage of the Petrino recruits that he left for Bert on defense like Trey Flowers and Wise. Top 10 in 2014, top 50 in 2015 then it off the cliff.

Talent and depth the reason we had another double digit penalty game as well?

That’s what bothers me the most. And the soft arse defense just isn’t fun to watch but it got the job done so I’m cool.

The penalties were annoying as hell but most of them were offensive weren’t they?

I think y’all are a little hard on the defense as a whole. They can be frustrating as hell at moments but I remember a few years ago and I guess I’m still softened from the utter shitshow we had before. I love the way we tackle hard, play hard as hell and at least seem to know what’s going on in the game unlike the past. We need to get much better but I’m willing to grant some more time.

But a lot of these posts were during the game and it’s also easier to not be as pissed the morning after when we pulled off the win.

Yea, there’s just Briles/offense talk in here and I’m not starting another thread.

Win is a win. Clean it up and we can beat LSU. If we don’t, they’re going to smoke us even though they suck.

People are just way too reactionary. Pittman has given some posters/fans a taste of success and many of them have forgotten where we were less than 2 years ago.

The offense played well all in all. I made that post in the 1st half and was frustrated. I’ve been one of briles biggest supporters this season and I believe he is clearly the best coordinator we have

Briles has a lot more talent to work with than Odom does. I see Odom's defense as more of a personnel thing than a preferred scheme one.

There are only so many big men with the speed and agility needed to compete in the SEC to go around and the Bama/Georgia/LSU's of the world gobble them all up. With this scheme we reduce the number of those guys we need to be competitive and have depth. Easier to find athletic bodies for a 5-6 man secondary than a 4-3 or 3-4 front.

Our DC will always be working with less than our OC.

Also, are we forgetting that one of the two guys who makes our D work has been out or ineffective for half of our games? What does the O look like without KJ or Burks?

As far a blitzing goes, you undermine the scheme when you do. The windows get bigger and you are sending 4-5 against 5-6. If Odom blitzes it should be all or nothing.

We have faced Nix, Coral and Rodgers and are a converted 2 pt away from coming away 2 out of 3. We feast on inexperienced QBs and hope good ones have a bad day. It is what it is.

I’m not even saying we blitz necessarily but just change up the look. Twist stunt be unpredictable in your rush lanes, don’t just try to contain the qb every play giving him all day to pick you apart especially someone like Rogers who is very littl threat as a runner. Or zone blitz where you bring a backer but drop a d end into the flats drop a corner deep and buzz a safety down in the middle. You still get 8 in coverage while also mixing up the look for the offense. Stuff like that is going to be better than just rushing the same 3 into the same gap play after play

If counted correctly, State qb was 23/27 in the 2nd half. 85%

Idk what’s worse, the fact it’s true. Or the fact Petrino out recruited him.
