The likelihood of competing at an extremely high level in the SEC West is slim. How about we realize that in this current climate of SEC football we can catch lightning in a bottle with the right recruits and a couple good breaks and win 10 games, maybe 11.... But basketball, the opportunity for success in basketball is much more likely and if dealt with properly Arkansas could become a National powerhouse again. It's happened multiple times before across different decades with different coaches. With that said, throw crazy money out there and make it happen.. 10 years $60 million. That's what I think anyway. Arkansas can be a basketball and baseball school easily if the powers that be just realize that investing in that is an opportunity for more success.

10 years $60 million could be easily thrown at Beard. Some may say it's brazen and stupid on such an "unproven" coach, but how much more proof do you need to show you that this guy is the ultimate quick turnaround coach and by quick turnaround, I mean elite level ball in 2 yrs. at schools with virtually no BBall history or past support.

He's the whale, go full Mal Moore-Nick Saban on him. Get on a plane to lubbokc sit down with him, and say, we ain't leaving unless your on the plane back to Fayetteville with me.

I'd also happily take sampson, who will likely be cheaper and nearly just as good and would probably retire at Arkansas, but you have to take the shot at Beard.

Pretty sure holding someone against their will is a felony.

But yes, we gotta make a big hire now.

I don't disagree but 10/$60M ain't gonna happen.

I don't keep up with trends or specifics in coaches contracts. However if it were me I'd be putting in some hefty bonuses for Sweet 16, Final 4 and NC's. I'm sure those are standard but if we wanted to throw out stupid amounts of cash I'd tie a bulk of it to performance. I think I read that Dabo got $250K for winning a NC. I say offer Beard $4M annually and $1-$2M for winning a NC.

Although on the flip side, if your motivating a coach by cash you probably have the wrong person to begin with.

what's the difference in paying $5m for a football coach and $3m for basketball coach than paying $6m for basketball coach and $4m for a football coach? $3m? you're telling me with sec network money and all the rest of the money that arkansas has that they can't find $3m? i disagree, i think it's a mindset and they just need to realize that basketball could put arkansas back on the map.

Oh they could find it. I just don't see it happening. $6M per year that is. Somebody who has been here 5 years with significant success, maybe a NC, then yeah I could see us getting into Duke, UK, KU ranges. But not right out of the gate.

No reason to go that high anyway. The only coaches that make more than that are Coach K and Cal.

Like I posted on the rant, I really want to force Texas Tech into the pickle of paying Beard or handing him over to us.

Yep but I thought Self was north of $6M so i looked it up. Here are the Top 5. According to USA Today:

Cal: $9M
Coach K: $7M
Izzo: $4.1M
Bennett: $4.1M
Self: $4M

Chris Mack is at $4M also, so as of today we'd be offering Top 5 money at $4M basically.

There's not even 10 bball coaches in the country who deserve that kind of contract.

Beard very well could be one of those, though.

Maybe. It's the length that's the hardest part. $6 million a year is top 5 money and a 10 year contract is something you really only hear about for baseball players. A 10 year 60 million contract would easily be top 5 most lucrative contracts of all time for any coach in any sport.

Now do I think we get any of those? Absolutely not. But I think you put the basketball world on notice if you offer 10/60. And I think Billy D would do it for that price and would be amazing at Arkansas. Arkansas is a better job with better fan support and better facilities than Florida was.
