Michigan is flush with 4* and 5* players. And Herb's schtick is totally B1G-style, anyway. He'll probably do fine there.

Yep. He was successful as Wisconsin. It just makes sense for us that he’ll go kill it at Michigan.

All I needed to know about Herb was him shrugging off Matt Jones about working on speed with the track team.

Yep...what would a 6'6" 240 lb QB who ran a 4.37 with a 40" vertical know anything about speed or agility.....

A lot of that is due to his freak genetics. But the fact that we were so consistently slow and easily winded was apparent to people with far less football acumen than Matt Jones.

I caught a couple minutes of Trey Biddy yesterday and he said Bert and the strength staff did not believe in 40 times... They actually said they could just look at a guy and see if he was fast or not.... I shite you not......

Fitz Hill was in studio and he was flabbergasted... He said the human eye cannot tell if a guy runs a 4.50 or a 4.48, but that could mean stopping a touchdown vs. giving one up. He also said coaches fall in love with players and want to belive they're fast enough and convince themselves 9f it... But obviously, when timed in 40 yd dash, the clock won't lie and you come to realize you can either take the guy or not because he may be too slow.

I simply cannot wrap my head around how and why Bert though speed did not matter in this league... It stunning, to say the least, that a guy HEADING a multi million industry simply overlooked one of the absolute key aspects of winning.

Everybody on this board could watch 1 qtr of this team over the last few yrs and see we were probably the slowest team in the league... How could the head coach not see that and adjust accordingly?

40 times don't mean everything, there is a difference in track speed and game speed.

Several guys are slow as frick in the 40 yard times but one of the fastest guys on the field in game situations.

However, Alex Collins looks fast as frick in the NFL and he was out running no one while he was here...

While that's true (see Joe Adams), it's a pretty darn good indicator. I'd imagine most of the guys in the NFL that are considered to have elite speed also had blazing 40 times at the combine.

Yet more proof that Herb is one of the worst S&C coaches in the country, and that Bert was in way over his head here.

Here are two guys who played and coach college football who literally had no idea that speed was essential to compete in the SEC, and that you can’t simply grind opponents down in this league. There are literally hundreds of thousands of college football fans who get paid approximately $0 to coach football who knew that speed is critical in the SEC.
