If I'm Briles, which I am obviously not, I'm taking advantage of the three-headed monster at running back (plus KJ) and running the piss out of it. Establishing the line of scrimmage and using play-action more. Of course we won't, but we should.

Yeah I think keep pounding it between the tackles then try to take advantage when the corners start pressing.

I'm intrigued to see how we divide up the carries this weekend. Maybe something like this:
Smith: 15-20
Sanders: 8-10
Jefferson: 8-10
Other RBs and/or WRs on jet sweeps: 5-8

Smith: 10-15
Sanders: 10-12
Jefferson: 6-8 designed runs

Everybody in the stadium knows burks is our best player. Got to use him as a decoy to get other players wide open and give KJ easy targets.

Games like this is where it will take our best players playing their best game
If we are using Burks as a decoy, we will lose and coaches should be fired

Anyone know where you can re-watch the game? It’s obviously not on my YouTube TV DVR bc it was on SECN+. ESPN app only has highlights available

You need the full game?
War machine always has good YouTube videos.

Would prefer the full game. I didnt get to see much of the second half due to a family situation

So on the high side that would be 48 snaps as run plays.
We averaged 67.8 snaps per game last year, so you believe a 30/70 split would be good in the modern game?

That depends. Do we want balance or do we want to be a read option type team? Both can be successful with the right talent. What talent do we have to run what system?
While I am not saying we should go that route, Army finished in the top 25 a few years back after a season where they had a couple of games where they did not complete a pass and one game where they didn't even attempt one. Or, the flip side of that, Mike Leach who runs so infrequently its almost a trick play when it happens.

I would like to say I wouldn’t mind an all run team if we win, but I think I would hate it. Just like I hated Nutt every season without DMC.
I don’t know what I hate more, 3 and out in 1m30s or 3 and out in 25s.
The full speed ahead offense just seems more Arkansas going back to Nolan and basketball. I don’t see us winning with an option attack against the SEC with all the speed on defense.

That’s about what we had against Rice. If we run the ball a lot it probably means we’re winning so I’d take that as a good sign.
I just think we’re built better to run the ball than pass it this year moreso than we were last season. Seems like we have a lot more depth at RB and a more mobile QB plus the OL was a lot better at run blocking than pass blocking last Saturday. I don’t think we necessarily need to give KJ that many designed running plays but we do need him to use his legs whenever possible instead of walking into a sack like Franks seemed to do.

quote:I do. He scored on a designed run play twice last week, one from 34 yards out and one from 68. If he’s got wheels like that, while at the same time not being able to throw the ball all that well, we would be stupid not to use him more in designed runs

I'm not suggesting we go Army and embrace the flexbone. I like watching Army football but I know that is an acquired taste and one that isn't for everyone. Though all college football fans should watch Army-Navy.
But if KJ can't start developing the ability to drop some touch passes in there we might need to lean on the run. I'd run the ball fairly heavily the first series or two and give KJ some nice and easy passes to complete... then open up things to see how he does.
I also admit... I'd slow the warp speed offense down. Until we got going in the second half we were shooting ourselves in the foot when we went hurry up. That and abandoning the dreaded jet sweep on 3rd and short. That would make me so happy.

Watched a Briles breakdown and he wants a guy who can pick up five-15 if given to him. Otherwise he wants a guy who can pick up the 5ish on crosses and slants.
He wants everything Tyler Wilson was great at. If KJ every hits the intermediate passes I think we will be really exceptional.

We need to use KJ's legs, but one thing that's almost certain is that Texas will put a spy on him early and often (they did this vs the UL QB). Meaning the QB draw probably will not work. That does give us an advantage in the passing game and pass protection though.
As much as I hate to say it, I think we are going to have to have some success passing early in order to pull off some of the designed QB runs.
That said, I think we can still use the option game effectively early on

And so will every SEC school, there needs to be a fear of him picking up the first down, but not a realization of him being Matt Jones/DMC in wildcat.
I just don’t want to see him afraid of standing in for a pass because he has been hit so many times.

Correct. Unless he shows his arm is a consistent threat.
