Quality thread #15

What are your thoughts?

quote:

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — A group is trying to put a measure on the ballot this fall that would allow up to three casinos in Arkansas to raise money for state highways.

The proposal calls for the first casino to be located in Jefferson County and the second in Crittenden County. A third could be located in Crawford, Miller, Mississippi, Pope, Union or White counties.

I have huge problem with those counties selected, pine bluff you need a casino in Boone county to get the Branson crowd and let oaklawn and the dog track upgrade. I would also allow the Arlington hotel to copy what the French lick, Indiana resort did with a casino. No need for anymore than those 4

Where would you put it at in Boone County? Right by the state line would be the only place I could see them putting it at.

Casinos are fun. We had our Marine Corps Balls up at Argosy in KC. Also, when I was in Cali we had them at Pachanga and Harrah's.

Find an old Asian guy at a craps table and follow his lead. Never fails.

Any time I am in Siloam for whatever reason I stop by that casino there to have lunch. They have a good buffet there and it's cheap.

Casinos are good places to get food.

I'll also usually drop 20 in a slot machine when I'm having lunch there too. Almost always lose every bit of it in real short order but one time I did win like 300 bucks. That was a good day.

Mmm, we already have a casino in Crittenden County at the Dog Track. Reasonably busy but not overwhelmingly so. Still they might be hoping to open a fancier one and lure more of the Memphis money to it.

If they have someone interested in building it then by all means, knock themselves out. I would worry that what will happen might mean that instead of one casino doing well we'd have two under performing.

The Oaklawn folks should propose to put one in one of the historic downtown Hot Springs hotels. Condition it on a complete historic restoration of the property (not a big new stucco/neon shitpile by the highway)

It's sad watching Hot Springs' history waste away. Win win, get casino(s) in Hot Springs, and preserve the history.

Yeah I still don't understand why MO and AR don't allow them, sooooo much money and tourism. So instead OK and KS put them like 5 minutes outside state lines all over the place and rake in on a ton of the AR/MO folks.

Just giving money away, never made sense to me.

Cape Girardeau, MO has a casino. Don't know about the rest of the state, but my brother lives there and he and his wife have been a few times.

100% agree about hot springs needing casino to redo historic hotels, like the Arlington. What they did at the French lick historic hotel is amazing and there is a connection with that hotel and Arlington. The hotel in Indiana was basically condemned and now is 5 star resort with casino money. You could put a casino/hotel complex right on the Missouri boarder going into Branson to get those visitors. Putting casinos in other towns is wrong though and not necessary. Let hot springs attract the Texas crowd and the Boone county get the Branson crowd.
