long but informative
What I got out of it: Bert is doing better than anyone before him.
The sec recruits so much better today that Bert averages 10th in the league where as Bobby was like 8.8 while averaging worse classes than Bert.
Also arkansas has produced almost 30 less p5 athletes now than during nutts last 5 years. 20 less than during Bobby's 5 years. Bret hasn't had a single big instate class yet. Been very tough on him.

I've always thought Bret was a better recruiter than nutt and petrino. I just think his game day coaching is questionable at times and his player development/ off season work can be called into question which I think is fair.

Never was, is, or will be a great recruiter. He just squeezes every ounce of talent out of his players.

HDN actually ended up with some very solid defensive recruits. Some of the best we've ever had.
He just struggled with QBs.

Most of whom fell into his lap. He still hasn't recruited nationally as well as beilama

Nutt had pro's on defense during his years. We haven't had a 1st or 2nd round pick since his tenure. Jake Bequette is the only 3rd round defensive draft pick and he didn't stick.
3rd - DE Jake Bequette (2012)
4th - DE Trey Flowers (2015); DE Deatrich Wise (2017)
5th - DE Chris Smith (2014); LB Martrell Spaight (2015)
6th - DT Darius Philon (2015); CB Tevin Mitchel (2015); DE Jeremiah Ledbetter (2017)
Would've been gone sooner without Matt Jones.

I seem to remember him recruiting a 15th or so ranked class his second year, which is the highest I've ever seen Arkansas recruit. I know one of his classes was terrible (like 40 or something), but the rest ranked in the top 25. Bert seems to hover around 25-30ish every year.

I'm pretty sure Petrino signed a stupid amount of players for that #15 class. Could be wrong, but I seem to remember a very large class.

It was on Rivals. Signed 31 players for the #16 class.
Rivals 09 Recruiting Class
As timing goes he could not have walked into a better situation with the 08 instate class and then followed it up with that massive 09 class.
The final classes of Petrino were full of major busts. Including the Sugar bowl appearance were we did nothing with that momentum.

The majority of those 4 stars didn't do a damn thing. That class was hyper inflated. Some of those players were hits and did big things. The majority of those names I don't even recognize.
Shameful people constantly pointing back to that class and it being a total failure. Robert Thomas, knile davis, Travis swanson, cobi Hamilton are basically the only real starters out of that class.

Bielema has been our coach during the biggest talent drought in the state since we joined the SEC. I think that has more of an effect than people want to admit.
Hell, we haven't even had talent that left for other programs that didn't absolutely suck.

ArFCA Arkansas @ArFCAArkansas
The State of Arkansas produces more Division 1 football players than any State in America Per Capita. Well done players and coaches!!
Another reason BS like this tweet shouldn't be tolerated.
Demographics hurt us but academics are a major burden with so many.
Guys like Monta Thomas who could make the grades in HS.

It makes sense now that somebody has pointed out that Arkansas has produced less power 5 talent lately. Bert has way more competition regionally than his predecessors for sure. Interesting article.

I think recruiting is gonna get alot easier now with what's going on in oxford

That 2010 class was pretty good on paper on NSD but had an insanely high washout/bust rate. A few years ago I went back and totalled up the number of players who either didn't make it to campus or lasted less than 18 months.
Can't remember the number offhand but it was an unsustainable turnover rate that ended up biting us in 2012 and 2013.

That depth chart is from what? It's changed a lot since that one was released.
