I think Rockiee said it best when he said Gafford gets too emotional. He is still very raw. I think it's great that he is trying to put his back to the basket more. Last year he didn't do it at all. This tells me he is working on his game. Zimmerman says that he is always early to the gym and always stays late.

He just needs to keep his emotions in check.

Not sure what to think about him getting winded so easily. But I imagine it's hard to run the floor like he does when you're damn near 7' tall. I've seen him outrun other teams guards down the floor. It's pretty incredible. And with his frame he is burning a lot of energy doing that. A hell of a lot more than someone you'd normally expect to see run like that and is half a foot shorter.

Mock drafts have him hovering around #11 overall. He isn't having quite the year I expected but he is still a very valuable member of this Razorbacks team, make no mistake about it. He had tremendous games against LSU and they have great athletes all over the floor.

I’ve been kind of critical of Gafford before but I think he’s started to really show signs of improvement the last few weeks. He’s able to use his strength and athleticism to get position down low and demand the entry pass. That’s a fairly new development which has lead to him becoming a much more dangerous half court scoring threat. Yesterday was rough though after having such a dominant start.

I guess I'll ask it - How does his playing this soft and inconsistent translate into the 1st round of the draft?

If I'm an NBA GM do I not have at least one round of options who are more NBA ready?

Maybe it's just he doesn't want to play that hard for Anderson.

Just look at Ben Simmons. Obviously Simmons has a much higher upside than Gafford but you could say the same thing regarding him and effort. Some LSU fans still hate him for not giving more effort. He seemed to not give a frick on LSU at many times throughout the season. That LSU team was similar to our team in the sense they hung around the bubble for awhile and ended up turning down an NIT bid after they didn't make it. That wasn't an issue at all when it came time for the draft.

Simmons knew he was a one and done guy though. Gafford came back to do this.

Yeah but that doesn't change anything with how he is viewed by the scouts.

I only made that comparison because he wasn't understanding why Gafford was still a 1st round grade with low effort. Didn't make the comparison to try and justify anything regarding low effort.

I'm pretty late to this thread but here's what I've seen of his game and I've seen him play all the way back to high school. He doesn't like physical play. If an opposing big wants to play with a body on him all night he will get tired of it and stop working. Look at his good games this year, yeah he's played well against a couple of good players but generally they are the type that chase a lot and try to swat everything instead of body up and play physical.
Personally I don't think he's ready for the league.... I know he doesn't care what I think but I really believe that his lack of physicality is gonna be a major knock on him in the draft.

Can you imagine him vs. someone like Zion Williamson? Zion would push him all over the court.

I love the kid, love that he's a hog, but people are figuring out the formula to slow him down.

You don't watch the NBA very much then. Gafford could average around 10 points his rookie season off of nothing but lobs and pick and roll feeds. Gafford is built to be a prototypical rim protector and dunker and truly is already ready to perform that roll in the NBA rn. I thought he came back to prove he was more than that but sadly there is hardly much improvement at all.
