Art briles turned Baylor into a national power

Dabo Swinney tooo a team who historically was at the level of Arkansas or lower and made them one of the top 2 programs in college football

Gary Patterson mike dantonio and mike Grundy each took teams that were known as average at best bottom feeders at worse and turned them into teams people have come to expect 10 win seasons out of

Chris Peterson turned Boise state into a team that was capable of beating Oklahoma in a bcs bowl

We aren’t hopeless and all is not lost. It just takes finding the right damn coach. Our teams didn’t all of a sudden become devoid of talent we just made two really bad hires in a row. And we aren’t losing because we’re in the sec hell we won more when the sec was at its height then we ever did in almost the entire history of our program outside of the 60s. All it takes is the right hire and we will be back in business

I agree. However what is the one thing all of these coaches have in common?
They played in weak conferences where they could having winning seasons and build on those.

Bobby came in and won pretty much immediately when the sec was as tough as it ever was. You realize this conference isn’t strong right now right? Kentucky Missouri ole miss miss state are all not very good. Auburn with Gus is always gonna be around an 8- maybe 10 win team about like us with Houston dale. Tennessee is trash Vandy is Vandy and Florida is a paper tiger. Theres 3 good teams in this conference right now and 2 that are above average in Aggie and auburn. ( jury is really still out on A&M) with the right coach we will win period

I was not endorsing bringing bobby back btw just giving an example with this program in this conference

Agreed.

All it takes is hiring the right coach to turn a program around and reshape the culture. Arkansas has the money and facilities to lock said coach down if he starts winning big, like we did with Petrino's contact and buyout.

Look at Tennessee. They're not in the shitter for any other reason other than stepping on their dicks with four coaching hires in a row.

With no disrespect meant to Peterson, who has done a very good job where ever he has been, Dan Hawkins (and Dirk Koetter before him) should get the credit for building Boise State into... well... Boise State. Hawkins had 3 top 25 finishes in 5 years. The table was well and truly set for Peterson to come in and do great things.

Now, I will grant you, Hawkins bombed at Colorado later on, though he seems to be doing well at UC Davis at the tail end of his career.

Football does not happen in a vacuum. Briles ran an outlaw program and Baylor crashed and burned after that got out. Dabo caught the mother of all lucky breaks when Spurrier kept coaching even though he had effectively retired and let Clemson suck up all the local talent. TCU was pretty darn decent when Patterson got the head coach gig. Michigan State has won 60% of their football games and can lay claim to 6 national titles plus Dantonio inherited a very good squad built by Nick Saban in his final year at that school.

Gundy, for the record, has done very well but I attribute that to his mullet.

Petrino, here at Arkansas, might not have been handed a steak and blowjob team, but he at least got a spaghetti and handjob team. We were pretty decent before he got the spot.

We might, like most programs, need a coach that can make us respectable and then turn the keys over to a real hot shot.

that’s not beating a dominant blue blood powerhouse

have you seen Baylor lately? Even with all of there issues there still a better program than us

tcu was never what they are under Patterson and dabo might’ve caught a break but that doesn’t explain how he turned CLEMSON into a top 5 recruiting team and championship favorite

Good post but this one statement is absolutely true. Hard to do unfortunately but it will happen for Arkansas.

And cheating your arse off!

I'm all in!

Every member of Nolan's championship teams had tricked out rides and honestly most of Houston Nutt's teams did too. Cedric Cobb showed up on campus with a tricked out ride!

Bobby came in his second year with a transfer QB and won 8 games. That was peak SEC, too.

Chert comes in his second year with a transfer QB and gets gorilla fricked by a bad San Jose St team. SEC is straight shite compared to 10 years ago.

I know there's a bunch of "Nothing to see here, move along" people, but things are really, really bad right now. Danger of the program lowering itself into the grave. I don't know if firing Chert now is the answer, but something has to happen.

Bobby has apologized. I realize that his last season at Louisville was bad. His fault for poor recruiting and the ACC getting better. No idea what having a new AD had to do with it, but not willing to completely dismiss it. He's in Little Rock basically politicking for the job. I know I know I will get 100 different it will never happen responses. But thats just closed minded. Give the man another Todd Grantham type of defensive cooac. Hell even try to get Chad to stay on as recruiting coordinator and let him keep bringing in these awesome receivers. And as long as we are living in the fantasy world of bringing in the best to win why not throw a lot of money at Pittman to come in and rebuild and coach our offensive line ? Arkansas has the money to get all this done. The people have forgiven Bobby. So, lets be Nike and just do it.

He'd be my number one pick. A very close 1a would be Leach.

All of this is depressingly true. The progression with BP was very tangible even in year one. By year two his vision had been completely brought to the field minus a couple small things. I’m sure we had better talent then but still, the current situation isn’t right. Morris’s famous offense is apparently a complete myth. That or it requires the type of talent that would make any system look great. He’s not doing a good job at communicating what issues we are having and it looks like it’s starting to effect his confidence. He really stays away from even discussing his “system” at this point.

The defense is also a nightmare which I anticipated in year two. My expectation was that he’d have our offense close to an elite level this year and we’d have to try to sell his offense to some promising defensive coaches and recruits to get us ready to really compete in the SEC. I didn’t expect him to get stuck on step one like this. He might as well just not even worry about defense and spend every waking hour trying to figure out how he’s going to turn this offense into the machine it was hyped as being. Proof of concept on the offensive side would probably get him another year.
