Doing it, and doing it well are quite different things, aren't they? I haven't actually seen anything definitive as to whether he sucks as a recruiter or not. He certainly has that reputation though, deserved or not.
Do you know whether he deserves his reputation? Having the #81 defense in the nation, while surrounded by Texas recruits doesn't speak well for any part of his reputation, in my opinion. Either he's a shitty recruiter, or a shitty DC, or both.

So I guess teams didn't see his résumé, shite their pants, and then fail to score out of fear? Did they know he fielded some good defenses at LSU and Tennessee?

Don't forget, he's coached in a national championship game or two, and has been a DC in the SEC for a couple of decades. Not only will they not be beating us like rented mules, they'll be pissing down their legs.
