The 19,000+ COVID-19 tests reported today are a record high. There continues to be a high level of spread throughout our communities in highly-populated & rural areas. We must remain diligent over the weekend & not relax in following health guidelines.

It’s always bothered me that Searcy isn’t in Searcy county and Van Buren isn’t in Van Buren county. At least Lonoke got it right.

Do you pronounce Nevada county as:
Nev - A - da
Or
Nev - ah - da

I’ve always said “A”. Not sure why.

Before I moved up to NWA for college and then for good, it always confused me that Benton wasn't in Benton county.

Speaking of Conway County I’m surprised it’s not the dark color in the map. I bet it may be now, dammit.

And not to go too dark on this but the holidays get to people anyway and then toss covid and all the distancing stuff etc— I’ve heard of two horrible acts so far one of them being a mom killing her kids, her mom and herself on Christmas Day in the Atkins area. And then last night a guy I knew of but didn’t really know personally killed his ex wife in Conway. We have got to get back to some semblance of normalcy soon.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson is extending his coronavirus emergency declaration by another two months as the state reported a record one-day spike in deaths and a new high in hospitalizations from COVID-19.

Hutchinson on Tuesday said he was extending the declaration another 60 days. The declaration was set to expire at the end of the month.

Hutchinson has used the declaration to impose several restrictions intended to curb the virus’s growth, including a mask mandate.

The state on Tuesday reported 66 new COVID-19 deaths, its biggest one day increase. The state has had 3,603 COVID deaths since the pandemic began.

This is from the website.

quote:

• Remain at home and avoid all public activities. This means do not go to work, church, school, stores (including grocery stores), nor any public events or places.
• Do not have visitors in your home.
• If you live in a home with other people, stay in a separate room. If that is not possible, wear a face mask when you are in the same room as others and stay at least 6 feet away from them (i.e. practice social distancing even in your home).
• Wash your hands and use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer often. Do not share personal items such as dishes, cups, forks, spoons, towels, etc.
• Do not leave your home except to get urgent or emergency medical care. If you need to see a doctor for reasons other than a medical emergency, please call your medical provider ahead of time to make proper arrangements.
• In the event of a medical emergency, call 911. Tell them that you are in home quarantine due to possible COVID-19 exposure.

Clarksville mayor shuts down his town to fight COVID-19 spread

Rieder said the mounting pressure on medical personnel forced him to take action, issuing an executive order to close all city park playgrounds, swimming areas, restrooms and other indoor and outdoor facilities that pose a risk of infection.

“Those areas where people tend to gather in bunch. We were limiting access to those for a temporary period of time,” Rieder outlined.

He is also encouraging employees to trade the office for the living room, if possible.
