It's just what they say to make themselves feel better about having to fire him. Petrino + Brandon Allen with that defensive talent might have won the league.

Can you imagine Hunter Henry in the Petrino offense? Good lord.

I think you’re right. 2015/16 when Bert went 7-6/8-5, Petrino at the minimum goes 9-3 both seasons. He damn sure doesn’t drop games to Toledo and Texas tech.

If you can turn back the clock for petrino, sure. But today? No way in hell

I like the chances better than going with a Silverfield type. I just don't see any benefit of moving on from Petrino for a complete reset with someone like that. If we make a strong hire, I won't complain too much about letting Petrino go, but a lot of these names are just never going to work.

Why would you need to turn back the clock? We're averaging one less point per game this year than we did in 2010 and 2011. The offense is producing the same as it always did.

That includes turnovers. We averaged 1.8 turnovers a game in 2010 and 1.5 in 2011. We average 1.7 this year. It's practically identical.

Literally the only difference between this year's team and Petrino's 21 win stint is the fact that he fielded a top 50 defense those years as HC while this year we have the 123rd ranked defense out of 136 teams.

As a playcaller he is fine. As a head coach since being let go from us the first he got the louisville job. Charlie strong was 23-3 his last two years there. Bobby got the job and proceeded to let the bottom fall out. That is with a generational player in lamar jackson. He improved Missouri state, but it also wasn't something to wright home about. He made them average. And if his name wasn't petrino none of you would be touting his time there as some big resume building achievement.

He consistently won 8+ games for 4 years then had one bad year the year his dad died.

He improved them so much they jumped from FCS to FBS and retained his staff. They are now 5-3 and 3-1 in conference in their first year in FBS with his son as OC and son-in-law as HC. They are already outperforming programs like Liberty.

He made them the best team in their conference for the first time in three decades.

I'd be defending any coach that had the numbers to back him up like he does. People keep trying to say he's lost it when he's literally producing at the exact same clip as he did in his first stint here, but people want to hang him out to dry because the side of the ball he had nothing to do with sucks. The criticism just doesn't carry much water, IMO.

If the portion of the team he was coaching sucked I'd be right there with you, but it doesn't. It's literally among the best in the nation. We're #1 in the country in plays of 20+ yards and average 5 touchdowns a game. The chances of whoever gets hired matching that is extremely slim. I don't think it's crazy to be willing to hang on to that and let him try to fix the defense with full control and an actually competitive NIL budget. We could do much much worse than that with an unproven hire, and probably will because that's just what we do.

I know people in the athletic department and Fun Bobby isn't even being considered. Take that for what it is worth.

I believe it and don't expect him to get the job. I do think he's getting a raw deal and I don't want him to end up at a program we have to play regularly.

Please take the time to unfriend them, let them know how utterly stupid they are prior to doing so....

Nothing. That's what it's worth.

He's not out of the race just yet.

Agree. Bobby is better than all but about 3 of the names I’ve seen mentioned. He won’t get the job but he probably should and I’ll die on the hill that he’d be successful here in a second stint. But I digress

BP is 100 percent out. Has been for two weeks plus. He was a backup in case what happened when we hired Sam happens but there’s plenty of interest this time that won’t be necessary.

No we’re not hiring Silverfield.

They’re putting full court press on Franklin. Like hard.

Golesh

Pretty confident the search doesn’t go beyond that.

There’s probably still a wild card out there but James Franklin as a 1 and Golesh as a fall back sounds great. I’ve personally bitched a lot about not firing Pittman last year but if this loss of a season led to waking up the Walton’s/other donors than it is worth it in the long haul. With the numbers being tossed around he’ll next year should be a 7 win season at least.
