It's an 11 minute video from a DVD series coach Morris did sometime after the 2007 season teaching the intricacies of the hurry up no huddle offense. Talks about how he went and learned from Malzahn before implementing it at Stephenville.
So we got...
- the Malzahn system
- without the Malzahn drama
- with an innovative offensive mind
- with added Texas connections for recruiting
Home run hire for sure
Why we haven't went to a spread or hurry up no huddle before now is beyond me. The excitement it brings to fans, the conditioning superiority you have on other teams, and how it makes your defense think fast by practicing against it daily make it a no brainer imo. His emphasis on conditioning really stood out in the video. Our current body by herb players are about to have rude wake up call
I really think the Gus/Nutt drama and Broyles denial of a running QB feasibility, which carried over into Jeff Long, really stunted the growth we could have seen before now from spread/hurry up no huddle. It took us longer than it should have to have a full changing of the old guard, but thankfully we're finally moving forward.

quote:I don't think you specifically need to be hurry-up, but spreading out and being fast is how Arkansas has had the most recent success ala Petrino. I'm interested to see how the defense adjusts to playing with a an up-tempo offense.

hurrying is important so that you keep them from substituting.

You hurry to the line, but do not have to hurry the snap and accomplish the same thing, ala Payton Manning for two decades in the NFL.
Morris doesn't run the Gus system, his teams have had a competent passing game and have been more balanced run/pass compared to Gus read option, read option, trick play/deep bomb, repeat/punt system.

He wants to take three shots a quarter and two reverses a half.
