Agreed.

The list of guys above in my post basically made zero impact whatsoever.

Trey was more or less the same player his entire career. Didn't get any stronger, didn't develop any post game.

Pretty much stayed the same decent passer with soft hands he was his entire career.

As you said, Qualls is the rare exception.

He just needs to recruit better. That really is the bottom line. Look what it is doing for Auburn, A&M, Alabama and soon to be LSU, assuming Wade isn't a total squid.

Not sure it did much for Alabama, they didn't really do any better than we did. A&M underachieved all conference play and then made the sweet 16. On the other hand, Auburn wins the SEC and then loses in epic fashion in the first weekend of the tourney.

It's really a crapshoot even if you do recruit well. But by law of averages you should make at least one sweet 16 in 7 years. If he just did that then I don't think people would be upset about the early exits as much.

Counting Macon, he'd be 5/8 then, while respectable, I do think at least 75 percent should be the bar.

We need to keep the top out of state guys from being bought away from us too.

Along with that, we need more overlap in good players.

Of course Qualls leaving was unexpected for all, but we can't be dropping as bad as I expect to just because a couple of players leave.

Thompson and Beard did play their rolls well, if they been off the bench.

Thompson is an excellent backup big. If he had developed a shot like Dwight Stewart, then you could have ran the offense through him.

Beard would have been a nice second PG, but we needed a starter that could drive and dish while playing stellar defense.

It is just more frustrating for me because while we lack a ton of talent as a state in football that really isn't the case for basketball at all. We aren't doing awful at keeping the bigger names in state but an extra two or three players every 5 years or so can make all the difference.

I agree 100 percent. An actual scorer off the bench would have done wonders this season.

Hall has a long way to go before he becomes an athletic basketball player as opposed to an athlete that plays basketball.

LOL at thinking 'quality of our talent' had ANYTHING to do with being down 21-2 to start the Butler game.

Talent - advantage Arkansas
Size - advantage Arkansas
Speed - advantage Arkansas
Scheme - advantage Butler
Game Management - advantage Butler
Effort - advantage Butler

I think I see the issues...

Butler no doubt has better basketball players than Arkansas.

There PG is much better than ours.

There 4 is light years better than any of ours.

Wideman is a better basketball player than Gafford and it isn't close. Gafford has much more talent, but Wideman did the same thing that most of the other good basketball bigs have done to Gafford.

We are better at the 2 and 3 position and those two shot like shite.

Why not just hire a head coach that doesn't have to rely on assistants to teach his team how to play basic half-court basketball?

I am not sure what I would support... or what I do support anymore.

I love CMA, but I don't love or like the outcomes of our seasons.

The longer we settle, the longer it will take to get to a place of expectation. But with the Nolan Richardson scandal and the past difficulties, there is a bit to be considered as well.

I am not sure that there is an easy answer. Hiring MA wasn't the smartest decision if it were not a success. and here we are in this situation.

DO we fire him and let the crap hit the fan again? would it even happen? would Nolan remain quiet? what would come out of the closet, public relations, etc?

Man, this is a very difficult situation. Best scenario would be if MA found someplace else to go and we already had a top notch coach ready to replace him, etc. or He succeed. I am afraid the latter isn't a probability

Well, that's what assistants are typically there for.

Ever heard of Tex Winter?

So hypothetically, how far do you guys think Calipari or Pearl or Cuonzo or Frank Martin could've took this team if they had all of our guys to pick from on their roster?

Of course guesses are a complete shot in the dark but still... It's pretty interesting(depressing) to think about.
