What in the ever living frick was that second down play call.

Also the entire first half his play calling was abysmal.

had the exact same thought. Run the goddamn ball there man. Also probably score a td when we kicked the fg if we didn’t abandon the run. I know we hadn’t ran the ball well today but shite when you only need 2 or 3 it’s not a bad idea

I know people will swarm to his defense, but his play calling was just flat out weird today. Some incomprehensibly stupid calls, but some good ones as well.

I've never seen a coach who vacillates from genius to dumbass with such rapidity and frequency.

I mean gawt damn! Get the first down, not try a 20 yard back shoulder pass down the sideline.

Just wasted a play when we didn't have any to waste.

Then came the third down play.

I don't think he does a good job of self scouting. He puts too mu H emphasis on fast fast fast and running a qb who is not a speedster.

I also think he's just throwing shite against the wall like he could do in the Big 12 and it doesn't work instead of meticulously attacking the other teams weaknesses.

woods had been abusing them. I don't have a problem with that play.

I wouldn't go that far. We've seen him come out of halftime with a targeted attack on specific matchups many times.

I do think he's struggling to call around the deficiencies on the O-line. You could tell he was waiting for the O-line to prove it could keep the pocket clean long enough to go for the deep stuff before he committed.

As someone said in my 0 for 10 thread, Briles does a terrible job of adjusting to what we have. He just seems to have zero situational awareness.

Going tempo after our defense endures long drives. Horrible play calls and ill-timed 3-and-outs when we're scraping the bottom of the barrel for defensive depth.

A back shoulder throw with a wet football was not a great call. I suppose due to it being second and short, it wasn't completely awful, but the chances of putting yourself into a third and short was very high.

I wish we didn't draw up so many plays for franks running.

Some of y'all just need to accept that t his is always going to happen this year. We are not good enough to line up across from these other SEC teams and methodically beat them. It's proven every time a drive can't get going and we are forced to go slow. When defenses can sub and get set for us, we don't succeed. That will probably change in the future with a more solid line and just better depth across the board, but right now we have to gimmick our success. It is what it is.

I’ve been a Briles apologist, but Offense lost the game today. We got screwed in a lot of calls, but Offense was atrocious. Defense did what they could. Convert some 3rd downs and it’s ballgame.

The problem is they aren't drawn up for him to keep all the time. They are reads and he's being very poor with them at times. We have a TD instead of a FG if he just gives the ball to Smith at the goalline instead of keeping it only to slip behind the LoS.

Whats the deal with Feanks running the ball so much? It worked like 1 of 10 times

Bingo. There's a lot of poor execution and a lot of poor coaching. It's just a lot easier to see the poor coaching IMO.

I just can't fathom the option calls. Franks ALWAYS makes the wrong decision and 90% of the time keeps it and gets sacked. Mind boggling.

The one where he chose to keep it instead of giving it to Burks on the sweep with TWO linemen right in front of his face waiting for him to keep the ball absolutely blew my mind.

I think Burks felt the same way as well. I have zero clue what he was reading there or on the goal line but he clearly made the wrong read on both.

Burks would have been tackled immediately IMO... I almost wonder if it was one of these plays that we fake the hand-off to him and then swing it to him immediately and Burks was baffled as to why the pass didn't get off.

Could easily be either. I do think that might have been the initial call, but I don't know how you can pull that out of Burks' gut with what he was looking at.
