One thing I don't think I've seen on here is leach's record versus top 25. Saw it somewhere else and it wasn't pretty.

During his 10 years at Tech (2000-09), Leach's teams finished in the top 25 (5 times). And once (2018) at WSU. (18 seasons) (19 top 25 career wins)

Kiffin has had 1 top 25 team (2011 at USC). (8 seasons) (3 top 25 career wins)

Neither is very pretty. And winning percentages vs. top 25 can often be a tricky statistic.

Here's an interesting thread on SEC Rant:

Coaches vs. AP Top 25 teams

I worry about putting too much value into individual assistants when deciding on a HC.

In my opinion, this is how you evaluate a HC. His ability to hire assistant coaches. Hell, Bret was starting to look good until he chased away his staff.

In the modern era a HC is a CEO that sets the goals and strategy. He hires assistants that can execute and recruit.

I would have expected that a week ago whenever they thought he was a candidate or even before if they were interested in football

It’s a pretty big deal.

See the last 2 years as your example.

The HC is important but the men he puts around him is crucial.

Ed O had a horrible record at Ole Miss. Hits LSU and builds a top notch staff and he’s #1 right now. It’s not because of him. It’s who he has around him.

Chad Had Crash Craddock and his merry band of failures and a washed up DC and here we are.

Is this including Biddy who just said Lane wasn't a serious candidate?

Biddy is about as well informed as I am. He’s got Pete who works for him putting our articles saying he is while he is saying he isn’t.

Kiffen seems logical as there was a whole bunch of noise on him and then suddenly folks tried to walk it back like he’s not a candidate. I seem to remember the Muss thing going the same way. Like they don’t want to scare anyone off or tip our hand so they put of messages that he’s not the guy.
