I don't think anyone is arguing that Dave doesn't know what he's doing, just that he can stop saying he cares about winning the conference tournament if he's just trying to get out of there as soon as possible. Why not be honest about it?
Personal opinion...I wish it were just single elimination across the board then everyone would probably care a little more. The current set up is a prime time to burn pitching before it really matters.
I think DVH doesn’t admit it just because he doesn’t want to ruffle SEC feathers. Sort of like a football program playing in the Independence Bowl and speaking about how happy they are to be in Shreveport. It’s just coach speak to toe the line. I think the years of DVH in the SEC tourney have shown he could give two rips. I understand you wanting him to be honest, but that’ll never happen. I think it may slightly happen if they were to change the format that’s more favorable for saving pitching for the next week.

Correct
If he tells the truth he looks like a sore loser, and pisses off other coaches for no reason.
By fibbing he shows respect to the other teams and gets to go rest his. I don't understand why people can't grasp this.

You're talking about disrespect while Dave is intentionally throwing games. Anyone can see it. He obviously wasn't trying to win the Georgia game, I didn't see the Ole Miss game so I won't comment on it.
My problem is with Dave treating the fans like they're stupid. Saying he'll try to win the tournament and then losing intentionally is pretty shitty. Fans understand gamesmanship, they're not all idiots.
I'm talking about what Dave said before the tournament started, not after losing a game.

It's disrespectful to say they won cause we weren't trying, and also makes you look like an arse. It gives the appearance you are saying you only lost because you wanted to, even if that's truly the case.

This would be a giant f you to the league and to any team that still needs help. Apparently the concept of diplomacy is just completely over your head.
The best move for every coach in this league is to pretend it's a big deal. It benefits others when you're a big dog and helps you in the years you need help.
If your place of business has a special event going on would you show up and say this whole thing is pointless? No, if you cared about your business you would put on a smile and do and say what is expected.

Everyone grasps it, that's why it's pointless to lie about it.

Obviously not.

Ugh. I know why Dave doesn't care about the tournament. We all do! But don't tell the fans you're trying to win a game and then lose on purpose. I'm sure the fans that went to Hoover don't appreciate that.

Any fans that went to Hoover expecting our starters to throw 100 plus pitches are idiots.

You're right. But Campbell didn't even reach his pitch count and hadn't given up a run when he was pulled. I think the fans that went would at least want the team to try and win the game.

In our current situation this would hurt our chances at the real prize.
As a Hog fan it's really hard for me to ever watch a game and root for a loss. This is just one of those times that it's actually beneficial to the big picture.
Getting in a few games and getting home to kick our feet up is really the best scenario.
If we had won on Thursday then we would have a bye until Saturday and any chance at rest is gone. You have to consider we could have also drawn a Thursday start in the NCAA.
So, if we make Saturday we probably have to also play Sunday with a chance at NCAA game on Thursday.
This is a very bad move for a team in our position.

An apples to apples comparison would be a coach saying they're excited about the GoDaddy and want to win, and then going out and throwing the game. Because that's what Dave did.

JFC dude. Everyone knows that. That's why it's stupid for Dave to lie about it.

A better one would be an NFL team sitting out their starters in the last week of the regular season after already locking up the best possible playoff positioning.
They still aren’t going to say they are trying to lose the game but they also won’t let their star QB get hit all game for no reason.

But coaches don't come out and say there's a misconception that they don't care about winning the game and then sit their starters.

You are way too wrapped up in what a coach says (which is meaningless).

I don't think a coach giving meaningful innings to players we will need this year or next equals trying to throw the game.
We need other guys to step up and perform. How are they going to do that without getting work? Do you think DVH "throws" midweek games since we don't use our Ace?

Getting this thread back on track.
Are the brackets setup differently this year?
Looks like the regional championship game is Monday, (along with an "if necessary" game Monday as well).
When did it change from Sunday being the finals with Monday being the "if necessary" only?

They used to start some regionals on Thursday and some on Friday. Looks like they are all starting on Friday now.
