Just gonna say I understand pitboss blocking fans on twitter. People are dumb and being selective with what info we absorb is pretty important.

Also creating a culture with the right players is pretty important and it requires making hard decisions on when to cut bait.

We might not have had a problem with him taking that visit if he was up front about it before he committed. But he didn’t handle it very well. From what UNT fans were saying his attitude was a problem with their staff too at times

Not really sure what the issue is with this. We have some beyond dumb fans on Twitter who say things behind the keyboard that they would never even remotely say to his face. I’m sure it gets old listening to their shite night in and night out. I’d be more surprised if he wasn’t out there blocking folks.

Yeah I’m a fan of Pittman don’t take it that way. I’m just saying you can kinda tell how bad we want/need someone based off how they act in regards to the portal.

North Texas tight end transfer Var'Keyes Gumms on Sunday recommitted to Arkansas, he told 247Sports.

Gumms initially told 247Sports on Thursday that he had opened up his recruiting process from Arkansas. He quickly followed that news up with a weekend trip to see the Cal Golden Bears. But following that visit, Gumms told 247Sports he felt Arkansas was still the right place for him.

"I wanted to weigh my options and make sure I was making the right decision and wasn’t moving too fast in the process," Gumms said. "Come to find out I still like Arkansas."

Gumms initially pledged to the Razorbacks on April 23, providing a big splash for an Arkansas transfer recruiting class that ranks eighth nationally. 247Sports gave Gumms a four-star transfer ranking with a grade of 90, making him the No. 13 overall tight end transfer of the 2022-23 transfer cycle.

The 6-foot-3, 230-pound Houston native had a breakout redshirt freshman campaign in Denton. He finished the 2022 season with 34 catches for 458 yards and 5 touchdowns, setting program single-season records for receptions and yards by a tight end. He also earned fourth-team all-conference honors.

Gumms previously told 247Sports he drew transfer offers from Arkansas, Oregon, Utah, West Virginia, Colorado, Cal and Florida Atlantic. At the time, he told 247Sports he’s “looking for the best fit” and a place that feels like home.

After walking back his commitment to Arkansas on Tuesday, North Texas tight end transfer Var’Keyes Gumms is back on board and recommitted to Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks, according to Chris Hummer.

The Houston native most recently took an official visit to California over the weekend. He entered the transfer portal initially on March 23, and reported an offer from Arkansas shortly after on April 15.

Gumms took an official visit to Arkansas on April 21 and announced his commitment to the Hogs on April 23. He chose Arkansas over Colorado, Cal, BYU and others.

In two seasons with the Mean Green, Gumms has hauled in 34 receptions for 458 yards and five touchdowns in 17 games. He played in three games in 2021 and 14 games in 2022.

The addition of Gumms provides a veteran presence to a tight end room that, while full of potential, is very young. The Hogs added two four-star tight ends in the 2023 class in Ashdown’s Shamar Easter and Bixby, Oklahoma, native Luke Hasz, but adding Gumms provides another threat in the passing game for first-year offensive coordinator

Gumms will have multiple years of eligibility to play with the Hogs.

It was a massive get for Arkansas because not only did he fill a major need, but he was also widely considered one of the top available transfers. In fact, a pair of ESPN analysts — Craig Haubert and Tom VanHaaren — tabbed him as their favorite “under-the-radar steal” of the spring window.

“Gumms can come in and contribute right away, which likely takes some pressure off the 2023 signees and allows them to get acclimated before throwing them into the fire and putting all the production on them,” VanHaaren wrote. “If Gumms can put up the type of numbers he has in the past, he’ll be a big asset for the Razorbacks in 2023.”

You are either in, or you are out. Now this young man might do great here and he might be a wonderful fellow. Odds are he is because Pittman is fairly selective in who he recruits... but you have to let folks know that they have to get with the program.

I'm not knocking Gumms here. I think he got a wink, wink, nod, nod, offer to go out to California and thought it wouldn't do any harm. Honestly, with his skill set and an Enos offense he stands a good shot at playing his way onto an NFL roster and that is pretty tempting.

I had the exact same thought. “Hell, let him take his visit to Cal and see what he thinks of Berkeley.”
