Fayetteville (Ga.) Whitewater defensive lineman Stephen Johnson has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks. The 6-4, 310-pounder went public with his decision on Sunday after wrapping up an official visit in Fayetteville (Ark.).
Johnson is Arkansas' third commitment of the weekend, joining defensive back RJ Johnson and linebacker Alex Sanford. Johnson chose the Hogs over Georgia Tech, Maryland, Liberty, Vanderbilt, and others.
The Georgia native was recruited to Arkansas by first-year defensive line coach Deke Adams.

It seems to me that the staffs approach is to go after guys that are being recruited by schools like ole miss, miss state, Georgia tech, Texas tech, Oklahoma state etc. basically high level 3 star low 4 star guys with talent and potential that we can actually get to commit then build them up in stead of chasing high 4 and 5 stars that end up committing elsewhere forcing us to settle for players with their best offer being troy and Louisiana tech. But the really high level guys that are in state or are close by and have ties we lock down to top out the class. I think that is a good strategy until we turn into a perennial 9/10 win team

He is a better recruiter than what the recruiting sites give him credit for. Arkansas isn't regarded as a powerhouse like it is in baseball and soon to be in basketball. This is why they can't get the better players to visit. When was the last time a top 50 overall recruit took a visit here? I don't remember.
He is a different type of recruiter than someone like Nutt who gave offers to recruits after everyone else offered. Instead of doing his own evaluations, he panics with last minute offers. That same panic leads to commits from academic risks that other schools have backed off. Sam is the opposite of that. He evaluates these recruits and offers some before other schools know that recruit exists. He doesn't go after highly offered recruits because they show no interest in Arkansas and they currently will not visit. It is a waste of time and so he goes after recruits that are overlooked and need some development. This could get Arkansas out of that 7/8 win barrier and into that winning 9 win category each year.

Yeah that’s what I was getting at too. People just need to trust Sam

A 5* QB just visited a few months ago and wanted $2M and Arkansas basically told him to get lost.
His final 3 schools were Ark, Oregon, and Miami... And it looks like he's going to go to Miami now, which I'm sure met his offer.
Arkansas also just lost a big O-line recruit to Texas this weekend... Which guarantees $50K for everyone in that position group...
It's obvious that we are either not approaching NIL properly in football or simply don't have the booster backing to compete in that sport... Unlike Basketball, which is supposedly killing it in NIL and has already produced a national title-caliber roster.

not to mention we're apparently going to miss out on Markis Deal because of money
We aren't committed to winning in football

It is a lot easier to use NIL money in basketball because you only need a handful of players each year. Also it helps that Arkansas basketball is a bigger brand than in football.
NIL needs to be regulated because small states like Arkansas aren't able to compete with the oil and gas money state like Texas. NIL is just a front to funnel other money that is illegal. Saban and Bama are bitching about it because NIL takes the advantages they had in the past but now that bigger states with more money can just buy a team without any rules in place.

Sam and Yuracheck do but the university and the state doesn't they have the deep pockets to become competitive in this lawless age of NIL.

I guess Ole Miss didn't want him.

There's plenty of money in Arkansas, but it doesn't seem that any of the billionaires have any interest in spending $10M+/yr to bankroll a top football team.
Basketball already has its billionaire benefactor in the Hunts. Doesn't seem so far that anyone else wants to buck up for football.
There also doesn't seem to be much organization from the regular fans yet. If there were some legitamate service where eveyone could just subscribe for $5/month and the $ went to paying for football recruits, I feel like many many people would sign up.

Arkansas has money but other states do to. The State of Texas has a population almost 30 million with so much money, they don't know what to do with it. The Aggies are buying players and no one in the SEC can compete with them and it has made Saban worried.

Rashada was recently downgraded to a 4* so it sounds like we made the right decision.
And we’re about to land an OL in Patterson who is actually rated higher than Stroh. So…

Didn’t we hire his high school coach??

Yeah, probably hurt his feelings we're taking other LB's.
