THE official announcement will be made at an afternoon press conference, UofA will be AD and coach-less. They want this to happen swiftly and painlessly, it won't be allowed to linger longer than through Monday.
Don't expect a Saturday or Sunday PC for press and last-minute preparation reasons but it's not 100% out of the equation. I've been told 90% Monday, 10% an announcement comes before then with a PC still most likely on Monday.
LET THE COUNTDOWN BEGIN

Is it a “mutual separation” or a termination?

Curious as to why they'd wait until Monday?
EDIT - scratch that, just read your second paragraph.

So are we going to hire a coach first and then an AD or hire an AD first and then a coach? I see issues going both ways. It’s just which one poses more of a problem.

Honestly I hope they actually conduct a search for the AD first and go through the whole shebang.
Look guys, these GOBs or whatever we wanna call them have already proven themselves incompetent to the point of fans pooling money together for banners to fly over the stadium on national television.
I mean, I know everyone realized that, but I think it merits reiterating.
We cannot trust these people to have the program's best interest at heart. I would rather see our program go for the best possible candidate over the ole boy that drinks wine with Ronnie Floyd. That dude is a frickin scumbag.

its already known that CBB Is out by everyone. I wouldn't have a presser at all...
Just drop him, it and move on. The presser needs to come a few days after it is announced he is definitely gone with an update on the future and plans.

Chancellor has been awfully quiet after firing Long.
Almost like they don’t want to field questions.

If Gus beats Bama, we just might be stuck with Bert another year.

If we don't have an AD in a week or 10 days, then it was ignorant to fire long now. Really ignorant

What happens in 10 days that we have to have an AD in place?

It was ignorant period, unless he somehow misappropriated funds.

I agree, but the other side of the coin is that you let Long stay around to hire a new coach and then fire him shortly after. That's not a good MO either, really screws over your new coach who thought he'd be working for/with Long and looks pretty bad on the University/BOT. Plus the only reason you keep Long around to hire a coach in this scenario is to have his input and his decision on the coach, which they really didn't want anyway.
And yes, I know this has been a long time coming and isn't really 'news' to anyone that's been halfway paying attention. But unlike before, this is now a done deal and I'm fairly sure CBB has been informed as well. His tone has completely changed and is even saying things like (loosely) he doesn't know about anything beyond Sunday when asked about recruiting.
As of now they don't care if the new coach or AD comes first, which is crazy IMO. I assume they'd like to have the AD in place beforehand but it isn't a necessity. No idea if they plan on luring a coach with the appeal of having input on the AD, but this seems like it would be their best and only angle in this position. I don't have any ins with Steinmetz to know how the "national search firm" is coming along, but I have heard that there's no solid names coming forth yet. This is a bad sign unless they're keeping it all EXTREMELY tight-lipped.

I don't know the deets on Long's firing. He did get terminated, officially, for "convenience" and not cause.
Not necessarily 10 days, to be exact. But certainly not much longer than that.
The main reasons -
Recruiting
Other schools with vacancies will have an even greater advantage. We have to hire an AD and then hire a coach.
It weakens the idea that there was any sort of "plan" in place after the AD/Bert was fired, while reinforcing the idea that a few GOBs flew off the handle w/o thinking things through.
I don't know maybe we really will hire Gus and he will then hire the AD.
