Lot of really good players have come and gone since 2018.

I can think of 2 things that have remained constant.

While watching our “worst hitter” go 4-4 yesterday, it dawned on me that a great BA throughout a season at Baum doesn’t necessarily mean you’re going get great returns at Charles Schwab.

Most of the teams you see advance are good at putting the ball in play and manufacturing runs. Infield singles, Texas leaguers and good base-running win games in Omaha. You need guys that are used to grinding for their next reached base. Not because they suck but because that’s how they play to begin with.

If you try to win the game every time you’re at the plate, the pitchers and the park will humble you. And then you’re battling yourself as much as you’re battling the other team.

We did a much better job of that yesterday but concerning it took that kind of approach against that caliber of pitching and we had that many strikeouts.

Also very clearly got caught with our pants down using the regular season approach against LSU.

I get it, Anderson is really good but still an incredibly poor performance generating only 4 hits and getting hardly anything after he was out of the game.

I hope we can turn it around. We're far overdue for some consistent hitting in Omaha when it counts.

Did I hear announcers say we have the fewest number of bunts of anyone in omaha by a large margin?

The stadium thing is overblown, IMO. It's not like we're hitting a bunch of warning track shots that would be out at Baum. We can barely get the ball out of the infield. We're just not hitting the ball well right now.

Yesterday was a function of not being able to do a job. Arkansas had runners at 2nd and 3rd with either 0 outs or 1 out a total of 4 times yesterday and only scored 1 run. Had the guys you want up too: Aloy, Maxwell (x2), and Kozeal.

Maxwell, Helfrick, Kozeal, Bad Aloy and Iredale have a combined 2 hits and 11 Ks in 2 games.

Brutal.

How do we feel about this decision?

Get that we've gotta win but not sure I love how that sets up 2 with LSU.

Helfrick is arguably the MVP of the postseason for us, and Maxwell has had some big hits (notably the GS against Tennessee).

Kuhio and Iredale are a gaping hole in our lineup, and both fell off a cliff the last 1/3rd of the season. They’re a combined 0-12 with 6 K’s in Omaha.

Thomas and Robinette have done well. The ones I’d least expect stepping up.

I like going with Root, we have to do everything possible to win tonight or go home.

Root/Mcentire? We could use a vintage 2022 McEntire performance this week.

I’m more championship or bust. It’s really no different losing tonight, tomorrow night or Thursday.

I think saving root till tomorrow gives us the best shot at winning it all.

Does it though? I think if you’re optimizing your championship win probability, you’re pitching Root today and Gaeckle tomorrow. Then Wood pitches on Saturday, Root pitches on Sunday and Gaeckle pitches on Monday in the championship.

Who goes against LSU’s aces on Thursday then? Thats the hardest game left to win.

I would go bull pen today. Root tomorrow, mostly GG Thursday.

Wood Saturday, bullpen Sunday. Root Monday.

Exactly.

Starting Root tonight basically leaves us nothing for Thursday against Anderson.

That's a tall order the way we have been hitting in Omaha.

Seems like a prime opportunity to see what you can do with your committee against UCLAs committee.

I think Eyanson pitches Thursday with Anderson ready in a desperate situation. That isn’t much better admittedly.

We’re probably getting ahead of ourselves. Hope we win today and get another crack at lsu. We have a major score to settle.

You have to win but you also have to think ahead.

As other's have mentioned, winning today doesn't mean much if you don't give yourself a reasonable shot the next 2 days.

It is what it is but I don't love the move given what we're up against.
