Hopefully that carries into league play. I’m rdy to have a golden spikes candidate at the plate again.

I'm ready for SEC play

I'm starting to get encouraged by things. We can't lose any more pitching though.

DVH was flopping his dong on the table a few weeks ago when he was talking about our pitching depth. You can't tempt the baseball gods like that. They'll sic a swarm of yellow jackets on your twig and berries for being braggadocios.

The baseball gods are cruel little bastards. If a baseball god is reading this, us Hog fans love you and we are your humble servants to play the game the right way. We can't take anymore cruelty.

One of the more well-rounded offenses we've had in a while. Proficient at scoring pretty much any way that's needed.

Really hope today gets McEntire rolling. We need it badly. If he can stay effective we have a really solid starting core. We're gonna be sweating over the bullpen all year, though.

That excites me the most. Will be curious to see how they fare against SEC pitching.

I swear, every year I say the same thing...we just need one more (fill in the blank).

This year, it looks like the bullpen is gonna kill us, but it also depends on Tygart coming back and being healthy and some of the other arms hopefully stepping up.

Carter’s looked good his last couple of outings. He may be the first guy out of the pen next weekend.

It’d really be nice if Hagen could figure out how to stretch it out longer than 5 IP. But I know beggars can’t be choosers.

He made probably the best play of any infielder so far this year. He did make an error but it was tough. It was a bunt single slow roller to him and he tried to make a hero play but threw it away and the guy advanced to second on the throw. Probably should’ve just put it in his pocket but I appreciate the effort.

And even though it was an error, the throw was right on the money. It just got caught up with Slavens' glove and the runner, so Brady couldn't rangle it.

La Tech leads 2-0, threatening for more. Bases loaded, 1 out.

Hollan with 3 HBP in this inning alone.

The whole defense has come apart this in this second inning.

3 HBPs
E5 throwing error on Holt to allow a run
Passed ball by Rowland to allow a runner into scoring position
Poor outfield play allowing a fly to drop

Well we’ll get to see where our bullpen is at today.

La Tech plated 3 runs in the 2nd inning and only hit one ball out of the infield (and it was only a single and didn’t knock anyone in).

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but Diggs and Wegner both hit dingers.

5-3 Hogs, bottom of the 3rd

La Tech pitchers come apart in the bottom of the 3rd, and Hogs plate 9 runs.

10-3 Hogs, on to the 5th.

Top of the 6th and Adcock gets on the mound.

Bolt commits an E5 on a routine play, Stovall commits an E4 on one of the easiest DP balls you can get, and the next batter promptly launches one into the bullpen.

10-6 Hogs now.

Infield is still questionable.

Definitely still early, but I’m not sure that Cali/Holt, Bolton, Stovall is a CWS infield.

With the pitching we have, we need our defense to step up. Last year’s defense made our pitching better, whereas this year’s defense routinely puts our pitchers in holes by spotting base runners and being able to turn DPs.

Which brings me to my second observation before conference play.

One of the two need to step up soon.
