I’m not really surprised. Our options were slim and none.

I get it. We need a few good innings from Adcock today. Putting him in when there are two men on with no outs in the middle of a close game ain’t happening. This way you find out quickly what he’s going to give you and leave the more stable pieces available. It’s the opposite of the Kevin Kopps game 3 starting decision.

Any chance tcu is stealing our signs? It’s like they know what’s coming every pitch. We’re one of the few teams that doesn’t use those watch things.
No need to steal signs when you know we don’t pitch inside, probably because we can’t locate. TCU is hot right now but they also throttled us in February. They have Hobbs figured out.
Most frustrating thing to me over the past 3 years is our approach to hitting, pitching and coaching in general centers around winning 2 games every weekend. Doesn’t translate or set us up for postseason success very well when you aren’t playing best of 3 on normal rest. We’re hell bent on finding a closer who can get a 3 inning save, not developing arms we need late in the season.
Though I guess we should be thankful for the season we’ve had. On paper, with the injuries we’ve had, this team could have easily been a 2 seed in someone else’s regional.

In the previous 4 postseasons we have been in the CWS finals and CWS semis

And now we can't even win our own regional against some private christian school.

You’re not wrong.
Over the last few seasons we have fallen into a pattern where we tend to become over-reliant on one arm out of the pen and come to stretch him to 6 and 9 out saves.
We did it with Cronin in 2018 and 2019, Kopps in 2021, Tygart last year, and Wood this year. The latter two were true freshmen and both hit the freshman wall down the stretch from overuse.
Perhaps the shallowness of our bullpen this season was an outlier due to injuries (we’re in a different situation with a healthy Frank and Carter), but we know what we need to fix via the portal in the off-season.

You could say the same for Vandy.
Is Corbin in decline?

I'm not sure who else we would have turned to. Our available pitchers have been less than reliable this weekend.

I only say that because nobody has run Smith out of a game in less than 2 innings. Not even LSU. Our worst 2 losses of the year are to the same team that wasn't very highly ranked. Maybe it's just a match up problem.

Or they may hit it 101 mph right at someone. Just have to throw strikes and play defense.

If our pitchers don't know where it's going, how will their hitters?
Posted on 6/5/23 at 1:58 pm to Poker_hog
Yep. In two games against TCU we've walked them 14 times. Let's start with getting the ball over the plate.

Welp... just ruined a big inning handed to us on a platter.

Loaded the bases with no outs and got 1 GD run out of it.
Way to capitalize, Hogs.

Terrible play by Adcock to be slow to 2nd with the throw.
