Since Mike is probably not going to get next year to fix this mess I figured we could discuss the coaching search. Unless you think Ethan Henderson is going to be our savior.

We should just pass the torch to TJ Cleveland and keep this thing going

T.J. Otzelberger is another good candidate but will probably also get a new job after this season.

The obvious answer is to bring back Nolan Richardson.

Yes, he is well past his prime. That's fine. Just have him sitting there on the sidelines scowling at people. You hire good assistants around him and let Nolan, with some help, stand up a few times each game to absolutely ream out officials.

Let it be known that Nolan has a Concealed Carry Permit and that he is packing heat at every game and then let him do his thing with the officials.

How about someone we hire for coaching ability instead of trying to relive 30 years ago this time?

I'm ok with hiring someone whose entire philosophy hasn't been gutted by rule changes.

As am I, but I would argue that the method of play is still effective when you have the right players. Pitino was still doing quite well with it.

Shaka Smart and Anthony Grant were able to use the style of play to get paid quite well, although Grant didn't do well once on the big stage.

In the long run, it's all about players, regardless of your style of play. Mike hasn't gotten the players. If he was bringing in two or three highly regarded recruits with the upcoming class, I'd argue that he's getting there when combined with last years class, but alas, he's not.

Those are all perfectly legal. Just because other coaches prioritize turnovers doesn't mean it's the same philosophy. (By the way, Huggins is 10-14 this year)

Nolan's style was heavily predicated on hand-checking and keeping the guards in front of you defensively while being close on them to limit their movement. That shite doesn't fly anymore which is why you see when we "press" they just ride their hip until they give up position and the other team has an odd-man break on the other end while the defensive player scrambles to catch up to the play. It's not good defense.

He is really the only great example though. In the same way you could use Boeheim as an example for why zone defenses are great. They both can work but it is much more difficult to get the players that can run it efficiently. Huggins needs really good guards for his system and Boeheim needs length and run his zone. That is partly why Huggins is struggling so much this year, he lost two senior guards.
