It does seem like they are going to have a pretty large number of attendees.

Hopefully, Morris can come show some of these kids we can get better. If we whiff on all the instate OL then we're going to suffer for a while......unless he recruits the hell out if Texas. Arkansas kids just don't seem to care that much about the Hogs anymore. Been a while since we've won meaningful games.
It's not Bert's fault that Chad is turning an in state class better than the '08 one into an absolute fiasco. I'm willing to eat crow on this take, but I think he's a bad recruiter. Other programs had coaching changes and didn't sign Sun Belt caliber classes like us. Hell, Ole Miss had an interim for a whole season while on fricking probation and signed a decent class. I bought into the party line at first because I thought this class would be much better, yet here we are again sitting near 50 while whiffing on huge areas of need.
ETA: For instance, when Petrino was hired, kids jumped on board because his system was exciting after years of Nutt. I thought this might be similar, and it's actually the opposite. His "exciting system" is acting as a recruit repellant.

Dude recruiting that class started 2-3 years ago, over which time we haven't put anything remotely competitive on the field. Other classes that had coaching changes had better recruiting classes lined up than we did. You think Bert would have signed a better class last year? Wasn't trending that direction when he got canned.
Not to mention we've got to start targeting different types of players than we have for the past 5 years. We need some W's next year and to play with a little energy. Those things happen and recruits will start to notice.

Guy had just came from the NFL, not the same situation. We also weren't as bad under Nutt as we were under Bert (never thought i'd type that).
We haven't even played a game yet, why can't we let Morris coach 1 game before everyone starts thinking the sky is falling.

It was such a successful NFL tenure that ESPN totally wasn't using every analyst on their network to negative recruit Arkansas.

bottom line is if he doesn't sign a majority of this instate class he probably wont ge here long. as you'll at least one play on sundays most likely. hopefully not getting drafted from another sec foe.
fair or not this is his best chance to sign a great class. if he can't do that then he better win big quick. otherwise he will be pushed out quickly

It does concern me that SMU currently has the #1 class in the AAC after not finishing inside the top 5 under Morris, but not going to judge him when he hasn't coached a game yet
Posted on 6/19/18 at 5:22 pm to gohogs141
Who did SMU hire? Also you have to probably give credit to morris for putting some guys in the NFL while he was there.
Posted on 6/19/18 at 5:31 pm to gohogs141
Im gonna wait until i see the product on the field, and his first full recruiting class to judge him, but if he doesn't pan out ww can't hang onto him for 4 or 5 fricking years like we did fatass. Bert was a great hire on paper but after season 2 i seriously doubted he was the guy with 7 wins with that defense and after toledo i knew he had to go.

18 wins in the two previous seasons under Nutt vs 11 for Bielema. You also had the hype of McFadden being the premier RB in college those two years. As bad as we all thought we were then, we are in a much, much darker place now.

It's going to take at least 4 years to establish a pipeline to Texas and turn our offense around. We are doing a complete 180.

Yep. Considering the complete dumpster fire he took over, I don't see any way he doesn't get 4 years (barring a couple 3 or 4 win seasons in a row or disastrous off the field issues).

Sonny Dykes, after his terrible stint at Cal.
Rhett Lashlee is their OC now.

He had a pipeline instate this year and instead came in and let all the instate kids know they were less important than a kid from Texas in his recruiting priority.
Sure the talk of Texas and recruiting Texas had 50+ year old men popping viagra to achieve a boner, like Petrino was able to do with his introductory presser and throwing out concepts like passing the ball. Not so much for the instate kids in HS that could actually help him win games.
Chad is a Texas HS football god, it shouldn't take him 4 years to establish connections after his stint at SMU where he recruited Texas pretty much exclusively, and Clemson where he again recruited Texas.
At this point, and in the pass, he has shown himself to not be the best recruiter, he's going to have to coach the Texas diamonds in the rough up if we have any chance of competing.

You mad about the baseball team winning so now you’re shitting on the football program?
Morris made a point to hit every high school in the state and potentially hit on some good in state prospects this past class that Bert wasn’t going to get.
If we don’t get the instate prospects it’s not for lack of trying. 6 months to try and build a relationship with these guys who have been recruited for 2+ years by other programs is no easy task.
Throw in the dumpster fire of a product on the field the past few years the in state guys saw that first hand more than anyone else. I’ll be absolutely disappointed if we fail to land some of the instate talent, but you can’t put that all on Chad.

that's concerning though. we tried our best and failed in state? really points to that question of is he good enough to win here

It'll be concerning to me if we don't put a good product on the field. If folks are sniffing around for clues that he's going to be a failure before he ever coaches a game, then they're going to find reasons. Because that's what they want to find.

quote:yeah this is how i look at it too. Idc how hard he tried if he fails at recruiting then thats it doesnt matter why. Now if he can coavh up the diamonds or is a great game day coach or a great recruiter idc as long as we win on saturday but if we don't win at least 8 games by year 3 i think he should be gone. That is honestly asking very little in a 13 game season if you count bowl games. People like to shite on texas and tennesse because pf how quick they are to fire someone but i promise everyone knows those 2 schools will be dangerous again one day because the fans and administration will not settle for mediocrity. Thats the way we have to be. Don't let some guy who you can tell isn't getting the job done keep collecting a paycheck.
