If that’s the best crew of referees that Steve Shaw and the NCAA can put on the field for the most important game of the year, they should be ashamed of themselves. That game was almost unwatchable due to the number of non-calls on flagrant fouls. I get letting them play, and I have no problem with that. I don’t want every ticky tack thing called a penalty by the referees either, but when the outcome of a multitude of plays, and possibly the game itself are altered by allowing blatant violation of the rules without a call, they’ve gone too far. I’ve heard people say they’ve called it loose both ways so they have no problem with it. I do. If that game is officiated correctly, I am of the opinion that it wouldn’t have even been close, Indiana would’ve boat raced Miami. Maybe that’s one of the reasons the officials called it as they did to keep it close and an entertaining game so viewers wouldn’t tune out. Either that or they had money riding on Miami. And the most egregious area was the absolute elimination of pass interference in the postseason. That has to be addressed. The hand to hand combat on pass plays has to be addressed. This “no felony, no foul” policy cannot continue. This off season the officials need to re-emphasize no grabbing, no pushing off, no close is good enough. There’s enough problems in college football right now without games being decided by officiating that is clearly outside the lines.

Trying to throw the ball downfield was next to impossible due to holding. Catching the ball with one hand due to other being held was required.

Then again somebody told the crew to let them play.

The absolute definition of targeting on Mendoza with the defensive player coiling, launching, and striking the QB in the FACE with the crown of his helmet was the worst no call I've seen since Bryce Young Vs Tennessee where Bama was playing against the vols and the dirty refs.

There is absolutely no possible way the ref assigned to the QB could have possibly missed that call. No possible way the replay booth could have missed that call. No possible way anyone in the stadium or anyone watching at home could have missed that call.

As soon as I saw it I calmly paused the TV, and told my wife Indiana would have to beat Miami and the refs.

The Indiana receiver running free for a TD to ice the game having his PADS,... no not his jersey HIS F'ing PADS pulled off middle of his route was when I really felt like the refs were going to find a way to gift Miami the game.

Thank goodness the best team came out on top or the story in a great title season for Indiana would have been "refs."

Unbelievable they were that bad on the biggest stage.

They did "let them play" but I also think we are viewing from the lens on the opposite end of the spectrum.

When it comes to hard hits or pass defending, the SEC is officiated on the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

The play where the Indiana DB launched at the tight end down the sideline and separated the ball- if that's an Alabama/Kentucky game in October, he is getting ejected with a 10 second review. Same with the late hit that was called late on Indiana when the guy went crown of helmet to chest on Beck.

College officials just suck at their job frankly. We were blessed with the absolute worst in the SEC.

both teams got away with multiple pi's, holdings and other stuff. but if you look back, the entire cfp has been that way this year. when's the last time you seen a measurement for a first down or are they using some type of device to measure?

it was terrible, and the more it was not called the more Miami did it. Glad the more deserving team won

You think that's bad, watch how embarrassingly bad the officiating was in our last two trips to Knoxville. Officials singlehandedly cost us the game in 2022 and an argument can be made for 2024 as well.

2016. Clemson got off 100 plays against one of the best front 7 units in CFB history and didn’t have a single holding call. Then allowed a pick play for the winning TD.

Let them play is an interesting approach when one of the teams is disciplined and low penalty and the other one averages 10 flags per game.
