Why does Georgia not resonate as a villain?

It’s interesting to me that most of the CFB world was still rooting for UGA yesterday. I’m not surprised that was the case on this site because LSU fans view Bama as their biggest rival, but I was surprised by how many random CFB fans are still just rooting for Bama to lose.
Coming into yesterday UGA had 29 straight wins, was going for a third straight national title which hasn’t happened since the 1930s, and was favored by almost a TD. And still almost every non-Bama fan I know was rooting against Bama even though Bama winning has created the possibility of no SEC team in the playoff.
So why has UGA not resonated as a dynasty or villain?

Because Bama has been that beast for better part of 20 yrs and none of the media darlings have ever had a run like this. If Georgia makes a run like Alabama with Kirby Georgia would face the same hate.

Because the aura and history of Bama is the ultimate villain. The only time I ever remember a wide kind of excitement for Bama as a "good guy" was 2005 and maybe 1992 although a lot of people were riding with Miami.

We were already getting this level of hate before the 2012 season though. UGA didn’t even have a regular season game in the top 10 watched this year. By 2012, any time Bama was in a close game is was like moths to a flame for CFB fans.

Nobody has ever had a reason to dislike them. They were the annual biggest losers for half a century. lol
Bama has put other fanbases through HELL for decades at a time. Embrace it. It means we are the Kings.

It's funny to me how UGA doesn't evoke much emotion from anyone. No one really cares about their program outside of Georgia despite all they've accomplished the past two seasons. Bama is still the standard, and a two year, Clemson-like run doesn't change that.

There seemed to be a lot of good will 2009.....Bama's resurgence was sort of a feel good story.....that was before Saban became the Darth Vader of college football and the Bama program its Death Star

Political agenda. I’ll stop there.

There were some lsu fans pulling for Bama in the game thread on rant. Ga has started to rub people the wrong way because of their cockiness. Another year of then winning and more people would have been against them.

There were some that wanted Florida to go down, but nationally people loved Tebow and wanted to see him keep winning. Also tons of people LOVED Texas. Plus Bama's style wasn't as appealing. Bama wasn't necessarily villainous but we weren't darlings either, Tebow and McCoy and their respective brands were.

There was controversy from the beginning because the nature of Saban’s hiring. I was a kid at the time, but I remember the narrative about him being a “liar” because he initially said he wasn’t interested in being the next Alabama coach and changed his mind, and then LSU fans being super bitter about it. They’re still bitter, but NOTHING like they were in those first few years. Still no legit reason to hate, but that was one aspect that I do remember even the media picking up on. Then insult to injury was Saban actually turned Alabama around, and they’ve been a constant present and threat to college football for 17 years.

I will say 1993, David Palmer was a national darling, so even though Bama was champs people outside of Bama could cheer us on.

Same reason a lot of people have hated the Yankees forever.

People aren’t going to want to hear it but it’s politically motivated. Alabama is disliked by the national media because of the politics of the state and what happened during the civil rights era. Change my mind.

We're the Yankees of college football. People just forgot about it for a while during the Mikes. We will always be the ultimate villain when we are good. No one else comes close.

Are the people in the National Media immortal? Nobody running a network cares about that now, they care about money.

Well said. They remain an afterthought and a snoozer no matter what they accomplish and despite their fans talking unbelievable levels of trash.

Because Bama is Bama. It’s that simple. The NY Yankees of CFB. No matter how good or bad we are we will always be hated.

This. Bama are the Yankees. Blueblood with multiple dynasties. We've won at least 1 NC in every decade since the 1920s except for the 50s and 80s. Uga had 2 titles in school history and hadn't won a nc in over 40 years. Uga isn't historically relevant enough to be hated. We're the Yankees, no one hates the Texas Rangers.

Yes that’s part of it.
