I have seen Adam Gase's name mentioned as he has some ties to Saban. I'll be honest, the thought of that scares the shite out of me. He reminds me very much of an offensive version of Pete Golding: another young "genius" who can wow you on the whiteboard, but when it comes down to teaching it to players and putting the product on the field, falls miserably short of the impressive whiteboard performance. We don't need another guy like that who Saban is trying to grow into the position. Hard pass.

Unless it's a pure contract ploy, there's some interest. I think he'd make a good NFL HC...

Jeff Lebby. Probably won’t get a HC job for a while so won’t get poached as easy and fits what Saban wants to do more with being balanced and putting an emphasis on running the ball.

Adam Gase
The biggest red flag with him to me is QB development. A lot of his success came with Peyton as his QB, and I probably could have been a competent OC calling plays with Peyton under center. If the play wasn't going to work he'd just change it at the line.
Since then, Tannehill improved suddenly and dramatically after getting away from him and Sam Darnold is just plain bad.

Bruce Feldman is tweeting that sources are telling him that two of the coaches Saban is considering are Adam Gase and Bill O'Brien.

I’d be ok with O’Brien though him coming here to be bossed around by Saban doesn’t seem likely. I’ll hard pass on Gase.
My preference would be Herman.

Gase is legit bad at being creative, his window dressing on plays is painful to watch. It's almost like the defense can see through the motion or play action EVERY TIME.

The idea in a Gase offense is always to create matchup advantages through pre-snap motion, flood concepts in which there are more receivers than defenders to a side, and first-read openings that allow quarterbacks to have easy hot routes when things aren't right on more advanced routes.

Gase believes just as much in analytics as he does in old-school ideas, and in many ways he appears to be the prototype for the new kind of coach who will best succeed in the NFL—listen to your players, game-plan for each opponent differently and don't get too stuck in one concept.
I think he would be a good fit for Alabama. He has lot of talents to work with at Alabama than he did with JETs/Dolphins.

As others have said, I think the QB development part of it is as big a deal as play-calling with this hire.
I'll be honest, at this point, anybody we hire will end being a Top 10-15 play caller and schemer in college football. Gase or BoB would be good college OCs (whether they'd be great would be up for debate and have to wait and see).
The thing that Sark did on top of all that was develop the QB. BoB did a great job of that at Penn State. Gase doesn't have a college pedigree of it and his NFL time is not exactly sparkling between Tannehill and Darnold, but that is a bit of a different beast than developing a 18 year old IMHO for various reasons.

Tannehill was injured the entire time he played for Gase. He managed to start just 24 of 49 games.
Gase may suck, but you certainly can't base that on the three years with Tannehill

Gase would be a horrible hire because he's not good at running an offense. He has made his entire career and reputation off of 2 years of play calling for Peyton Manning. His offense the 2 years he was at Denver were ranked 1st and 2nd in points per game. After leaving Denver his offenses were 23,17,28,26,31, and 32. Ryan Tannehill has become a pro-bowl level QB since getting away from Gase and Sam Darnold looks like he forgot how to play football with Gase guiding him. Gase sucks. I'd love to ask Manning how many of Gase's plays he actually ran or if he made a lot of changes in the huddle or at the line.

Probably the wrong guy to ask - Manning loves him.

My only knock on Longo is what happened at Ole Miss. AJ Brown and Metcalf and your offense wasn't on fire? What happened?
I mean, he averaged over 500 ypg in the middle of a shitshow. There was some inconsistency, but his HC was objectively terrible.

So does Tannehill. Called him one of the best coaches he'd ever worked with.

Manning is the reason the Jets hired him. Woody's brother Chris knew nothing about football to know better.

If Gase is the pick, I can only assume Saban wants to try playing with a handicap .
I mean, in all honesty, with the talent we have, there aren't a ton of guys who could come in a not have our offense racking up yards and points. So, from that perspective, pretty much any hire we make will be fine. But Gase has to be one of the lamest options we have.

Oh I'm not suggesting Gase - just saying that asking Peyton Manning his thoughts on Gase expecting something bad isn't going to go according to plan
