We're Not As Bad As We Think (SC rewatch)

First of all, let's understand that we're having a lot of bad luck recently related to untimely penalties and bad bounces.
For example, I can't remember the last time I saw a successful onside kick.
These tight games are making us hyper-focus on every little tiny mistake that in a normal win would be totally forgotten.
Every penalty seems to occur at the worst possible time, negating a big offensive or defensive play.
We had two big defensive stops today negated by penalties - one a bullshite roughing the passer. These things are GAME-CHANGERS.
The defense, in hindsight, actually played pretty well getting 3 turnovers, and standing tall multiple times in big moments. But again, in a tight game, every first down seems like the end of the world.
The offense is playing well overall, but Jalen Milroe is MENTALLY DEFICIENT. We all know this by now.
This is where Jalen begins to take off. Plenty of room to run to the left. Probably won't be a big run, but at least 5 yards available.
Instead, he inexplicably runs right into the back of his own lineman, and falls down. How is this possible?
Milroe is HORRIBLE at throwing screens. Look at this bullshite. A ten yard play becomes a 3 yard play
He threw two bad interceptions today that changed the game, as well as a pick six last week.
Let's give DeBoer a break working with an invalid like Milroe. DeBoer's whole system and EVERYTHING depends on having a great QB - at least a smart game managing QB. We have neither.
Which brings me to my final point:
We have an offense minded HC. It's a total shift from Saban.
When we had Saban, we understood that the offense was all on the OC, and Saban had little to do with it. This is how we need to view the defense now. Don't blame DeBoer for our defensive woes which I think are overblown. Don't blame DeBoer for Milroe. Our offense, despite its problems, looks a lot better than last year.
DeBoer is still a great coach, but he needs a QB. Sark has Ewers and Manning to work with. Kiffin has Jaxson Dart. Missouri has a guy. Vanderbilt has a guy.
Our QB can't throw a screen pass.
This might be a rough year, but give DeBoer time, and let's go easy on him this year. I still fully support.
We've got Keelon Russel coming in - that's a guy DeBoer can win a natty with.

There were lanes to get big yards on scrambles up the middle but we didn't hit any of them. Milroe has no vision and looks to run out of bounds or lay down at the first sign of contact.
USC had the ball for more than 10 min in the third qtr and only scored 7. Our offense isn't doing much to help our defense.

We have the highest ceiling of every team in the country.
We have the lowest floor of every team in the country.

He has the worst vision I've ever seen (Not good for a passer either), and he has this weird sort of nonchalance where it's like he thinks he's too good to run the ball and take a hit.
It's like he gets upset when he gets tackled like he's offended the coaches asked him to run the ball.
I can't wait for this idiot to leave. I don't care how good or bad he looks from week to week. I want him gone.

The most disturbing thing to me is the defensive inconsistency. It was a home game after an embarrassing loss and 6 straight qtrs of bad defensive play.
Thought they'd be fired up and laser focused vs a not very good offense.
They looked confused most of the second half throwing their hands up at each other and moving around pre-snap like they were lost.
Bama was very, very lucky to walk away with a W.
The talent is 100% there. Need team leaders to step up, need individual accountability to prepare and execute, and need coaches to earn their paychecks.
Not overly impressed with the coaching at this point and hate the shift in culture to jaw jacking and show boating.

He thinks very highly of himself and doesn't like contact. He'll take a hit from time to time. A great example of this is the Vandy game when he threw once he passed the line of scrimmage. He had a lane. If he puts his head down and takes a hit it's a first down. But instead he throws a bomb to both look good and take risk the hit away. There are many examples of him pulling up short. Teams are defined by their leaders and our captain QB will only take a hit when it's most beneficial to him. He wants to be the hero on every single big play. What's ironic is if he did the little things and took the hits consistently, he would be.

As been brought up in another thread, he struggles with pre-snap reads and adjustments. The coaches have to help him out through the helmet but if defenses shift at the last second that's bad news. Which is likely why Bama was snapping the ball with plenty of time left against UGA. I do think he has made some progress but he panics and reverts back to his old self whenever the OL fails. He loses confidence in them and himself.
But to the be fair the pre-snap issue is a problem with many QBs these days both at college and even in the NFL. Very very few 'field generals' in todays football.
And Milroe's athleticism and arm are good enough that he can still get by most of the time. I still think we can win with him.

I’m sorry, but if your whole point is that Jalen is not a good runner and was running out of bounds at the sight being pummeled, then your nuts.
You can talk about his decision making, etc. in this game all you want, but if you think he isn’t a good athletic runner, you’re insane.
I can show you about a million examples where you are wrong - including a few in this game. Hell, he TOOK a sack in this game rather than throw it to a receiver (he had to recoil a pass on) who got mugged with no call. That was athletic as hell man. Not many QBs can do that.
Of all the damn things to bitch about, you choose this? Sheesh.

Go back and rewatch, the defense wasn't bad today.
South Carolina was held to 2/10 on third down outside of one drive.
The roughing the passer penalty was bullshite - that's another stop.
They had another stop that was taken away by a facemask.
The defense made crucial stops at the end of the game and forced 3 turnovers.
Milroe gave South Carolina 5 easy points at the end of the half to keep them in it. Major momentum loss. Not to mention squandering possessions that could've sealed the game.
The tightness of this game was all on Milroe playing like shite.

Milroe is probably the best Bama has right now. He’s an athlete trying to play QB.
The defense is a new system and you can see the guys are still learning.
The DL is pretty average.

He's a good, athletic runner, but his feet are faster than his brain, and he needs a wide-open run lane in order to run. He can't read, and anticipate a running lane. He literally runs into the backs of his own blockers and falls down instead of going around them.
He runs with nonchalance. If he doesn't see a hole, he trots and takes a loss instead of fighting for yards. People thought he was injured because of how lackadaisical he looked at times.

Man I'm so glad we are back to "Milroe sucks" after several weeks of "Milroe is awesome." This board fricking rules.

Hes completely maddening because of his ceiling.
The strip sack against Vandy he never even saw the pressure coming right at him.
Never read blitz yesterday resulting in three dead drives and a turnover.
But hes way too talented to just jettison. I mean anyone who saw his 1H against UGA understands what hes capable of.
Theres no good answer, but if you cant read a HS blitz you arent going to be able to play consistent championship level football at the elite P4 level.

He's PROBABLY our best bet, but we don't know. He's definitely an athlete trying to play QB, and it isn't pretty.
My point is that DeBoer is kinda like Sark and Kiffin. He needs a QB. His entire MO as a coach is based around the QB.
Milroe is the last guy he would've ever recruited at QB, and doesn't fit his system at all.

I missed this. I think you're referring to one week after the Georgia game.
Look, we've seen Milroe look great at times, but he keeps sinking back to his old self and looking like complete dogshit at other times.
The bottom line is DeBoer needs a better QB to work with, because he's a bad arse offensive coach when he has a guy that can pass the ball.

Yep, if everything lines up for him, he's deadly. If he has to think on the fly, he's awful.
I hope we can do great things this year, I just hope Milroe moves on, and we can actually start to see the DeBoer offense as intended next year.

This is why we look great while executing the script.
Once that script that has been repeated all week dries up so does the offense/milroe
Without the bye week allowing more time for a longer script uga beats Bama.
4 TDs on 4 possessions and then lights out... took a miracle play from the young phenom to salvage the game.
This week it took a busted coverage bomb TD to survive Carolina

The front 7 is average! 0-11-15 are all average. One really good ILBer would really make a difference on this team but we don't have that guy.
Bama will have to hit the portal and be successful or 2025 will be more of the same at ILBer.
